Hello,
I would recommend not doing anything and contacting Copper Electronics and have them arrange to have it shipped for a warranty repair. If you so much as open that radio they may decline the free repair you are entitled too. Copper Electronics are good folks. I do plenty of business with them. Contact them and tell them your issue and inform them the radio is only two days old and they will take care or you. For this radio they offer an alignment and tune for a small fee. Did they perform this on your radio before they shipped it? It would seem that something may be wrong with the PLL. Just to be sure make sure the power supply is sufficient and you have an SWR/Watt meter in line to make sure your radio does not suffer heat damage.
Regards,
Tony

Cobra 29XLR has no receive, no transmit, and meter light goes out when the mic is keyed.

If the PA works then the audio amp is fine. but normally when the one of the lights go out its a shorted capacitor.

I have a 29 cobra crome edition, the provlem when i key up the mike, the meter will not move, i tried 3 different mikes but could not get it to work on either of them

  • Now I need to know do you have any receive? No receive is a good sign either the final or driver is bad. Plug an external speaker into the PA port on the back of the CB and hit the switch to PA. If you hear yourself out of the external speaker then your IC chip is good. If not the it is bad. Do them little tests there and I can further help you. I just can't proceed without them answers.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Cobra 29 ltd wont transmit until warmed up for a few minutes. audio is fine, just no power out the antenna jack and not showing any on the meter on the face of radio.

Take the cover off, then hook it back up,take a pencil with the eraser end,go around the circuit board pressing down while you are keyed up, and notice the meter, see if it goes up, sounds like you have a cold solder joint, take a ohm meter and check the finals, replace them useing heat sink compound,....enjoy..... hope this helps....

Hello I have a 1997 Ford expedition Eddie Bauer with 233K mikes. Engine runs great. The problem: Whne I first start the vehical in summer or winter the windshield wipers will not work until the truck warms...

Hi MeTV,

I was expecting to hear, 'And the radio only plays the theme from the twilight zone'. I'm glad you're an Engineer.

Process of elimination then:
  • So temperature has nothing to do with it (Summer/Winter no diff).
  • Not a switch (Different locations)
  • Not a ground problem (Too consistent)
  • Not even same circuits.
Maybe it's not so much the engine warming up as the length of time.

What's left are Fusible links. Self resetting fuses that may (and I'm reaching here) be popping during startup. They take a few minutes to reset.

They are normally running through the firewall on the engine side. You will need a meter to check them. It has to be done while nothings working. They are regular wires with little barrel in line.

It's the only component that could be responsible

most likely been fiddled with and out of alignment. If you have a freq counter and a volt meter you could possibly fix it yourself. look at cbtricks.com for the aligment procedure.

Lost channels in a galaxy 66v cb radio

as far as the transmit frequency changing while you have the mic keyed this is normal, the transmit frequency is a little different than the receive, as far as the lost channels go you need to check the galaxy website and check to see if thier is any fixes listed. if none is listed then you can send the tech's a e-mail and tell them your problem and they will advise you on what to do.
