Please un-install the driver software/ utilities from the PC. while doing this the camera must be removed. Now after it was un-installed shut down the PC and restart. now reinstall the canon drivers . Once installed connect the camera as it will be detected.
Make sure that the SD card in the camera is good and does not contain any corrupt files. If so remove, copy the images and format.

How do I recover pictures back to my power shot sd card

If your computer has a built in card reader you can put any photo back on the card from your computer by dragging and dropping the file to the drive letter that is your SD card. If you're trying to recover lost photos from a SD card Google "card recovery pro". It's a free program that will read your SD card and restore as many photo's as it can.

How do I transfer my pictures to show on facebook ?

You need a computer. You need to transfer the photos from the camera to the PC via the Interface Cable IFC-400PCU and the power shot software that came on the cd. You may be able to get a card reader device and plug the memory card from the camera in the correct memory card slot of the card reader and then browse the photos via the upload photos browse in facebook on the computer.

My Canon PowerShot A480 isn't recognized by my Mac. I don't have a memory card reader on my comp - oddly, an old no name camera prompts Canon software to open as soon as it's plugged in t

ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS AND VIDEOS TO A COMPUTER
If your photos and videos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos and to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

How do i get canon power shot A480 to charge ? I put in new batteries and connected it to the port on my laptop and the camera is on and the lap top is plugged in. will it charge this way ?

No, for Canon Powershot cameras, connecting to your computer with the USB cable is just for downloading your photos. You'll need to remove your batteries and use an external charger to charge your batteries (assuming that they are rechargeable and not alkaline).

I have a Canon Power Shot A480. When I put the memory card in the computer nothing happens.

Do you have a program such as Canon Zoom Browser?
Is your computer PC or Mac? If it is a PC you should have Windows
Autoplay which starts automatically whenever you insert a memory card/thumb drive/CD/DVD. It can become disabled especially with virus infections. To check this click Start and type Autoplay in the search window. In Windows 7 this should offer you a range of options including different media types. Earlier versions of Windows will offer different options.

I have a powershot a480. No discs. I'm using a mac. When I plug it in, nothing happens. Any ideas?

You might want to consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

Do what the pros do....use a card reader instead of the camera. When you plug it into the USB port, an icon will appear called "NO NAME". Double-click on it and the pics will open in "preview". From there, you can import them to a folder you create on your desktop or into iPhoto. d05ed6a.jpg

1. With the camera on and in playback mode, plug the cord from the camera into the Macbook. It should appear on the desktop as a drive, probably called "no name". If it doesn't, don't worry...the next solution always works and it's the one the pros use anyway. 2. Get a card reader and use it to download to a folder you create on your desktop. From there, you can import the pics to iPhoto.

If it's a brand new card, it needs to be formatted with the camera. If it's been used before, the files may have been corrupted when plugged into your (or another) computer.
