Question about Washing Machines
F11 on our Kenmore Elite Washer. MCU failure diagnosed. Any tips on replacing it ourselvelves? Is this an easy repair that the average do-it-yourselfer can accomplish on their own? Will try to order online, since we are hardly at home and not so easy to schedule someone to repair.

Its pretty comlicated requires dissasembly of the front of the washer. A good tech can do in 1 hour. You may want to pay for it rather than spending all day and possibly damaging something. Let me know if you need further assistance.

SOURCE: I keep getting an F11
probably main control bd ..remove top ..rear support small box with all the wires ck for loose connection first..no tool other that a torx tip driver to remove top and a small screwdriver to help in removing clips holding wires in code means communication error

We experienced the same thing. I was able to restart and locate the noise to the water pump. After disassembling the water pump found the impeller shaft sliding out. For some reason this shaft will not stay in place. Had to order a complete pump assembly as the electric motor is not available.

Tips for a great answer:
The "F11" fault code will display if the Motor Control Unit (MCU) has an internal failure; repeating under or over voltage, or over current conditions. If failure occurs during high speed spin the door unlocks after 3 minutes. The MCU (Motor Control Unit) is located beside the motor. See images below. Key #13 is the CCU and key #1 is the MCU.
The CCU (Central Control Unit) is located under the top along the side panel.
I recommend checking for loose wire connections at the MCU, CCU and motor. If you do not get any motor action at all, the MCU has likely failed.NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before removing the top and lower access panel. I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your washer.

The F11 error code indicates an internal failure of the MCU (Motor Control Unit). Most often the MCU will need to be replaced; however there are a few things you may want to check first. If you have a volt/ohm meter and are comfortable working around live electricity I can give you a few checks that will help you diagnose the problem.
I have included an illustrated set of instructions, that should guide you through the disassembly and testing for the F11 (see this image).
Check the wiring harnesses between the CCU (Central Control Unit) and the MCU, and between the MCU and motor. If these connections are not good there can be a loss of communication between the computer boards and the motor.
Check continuity of the motor windings and tachometer. Begin by Ohming the set of 5 black wires (this connection also has a green wire) at the MCU. They are numbered from top to bottom 1-5, with 1 being the top black wire.
Ohm 1 to 2, 1 to 3, and 2 to 3, then Ohm 4 to 5. Wires 1, 2, and 3 should read approximately 6 Ohms when Ohmed two at a time, 4 and 5 should read approximately 115 Ohms together. If the readings you get are not close to 6 (5 - 7) and 115 (110 -125) the motor is bad and needs to be replaced.
If the Ohm readings are close to those given, and the wires and connectors are good, replace the MCU.
