If the water is clean, there is a problem with the water inlet valve, there may be a small piece of grit or similar preventing the valve from closing completely, or the rubber washer in the valve has either got hard or split and the valve is not sealing completely. There may be 2 valves, or a double and single valve in the machine, and to find out which one is leaking, the simplest solution is to ensure the soap dispenser is empty and dry, and put a piece of paper towel in each section, one of the pieces will be wet the next day, and it's the hose that is over that section that the water is coming from, follow that hose back and you should know which valve is not correctly sealing.

About 1-2 times a month, my front loading washer fills up with water (sometimes a little and sometimes about half full) without being turned on ... any ideas?

Leaking water inlet valve. Turn hot water valve off one night n see wether any water in drum in morning. Then try turning cold valve off at hose as well to see which one is letting the water in. Either way its only a $5 dollar bit thats passing water

Black type residue being left on clothes

Hi there,

This is a common problem on washing machines, if you predominantly do cold washes.

Over a period of time, a washing machine will accumulate a buildup of Soap Scum (excess soap & softener residue) which can stick to the inside of the drum.

This black coloured soap scum occasionally breaks away from the drum, and attaches to the clothing fabric during the wash cycle.

You can rectify this, by doing the following:

Firstly, purchase a packet of CITRIC ACID from your local grocery store (usually found in the baking isle).

Do the following procedure before going to bed:

1) Do a HOT WASH without clothes (Hi water level, with HOT water) - allow machine to fill with hot water, then add the CITRIC ACID to the water. Allow the machine to complete a FULL wash cycle (i.e. allow machine to agitate for 30 mins or so, then drain).

2) Fill the machine again with the HOT water / CITRIC ACID solution, but this time allow it to sit in the bowl overnight (no cycle).

3) Next morning, set machine to spin & drain (i.e. to empty the solution)

4) Set machine to fill with FRESH HOT WATER ONLY (no citric acid), then set machine to spin & drain. This will flush all remaining residue left in the bowl.

Note: Soap scum residue is caused by using excess detergent/fabric softener. Hot Water flushing should be done every 6 months.

Contrary to what the detergent manufacturers state, you should follow Samsung's instructions by using HALF the recommended detergent.

Samsung machines prefer LOW SUDS, and you may find by reducing the amount of detergent used, you may even eliminate the buildup of soap scum.

I haven't used my washing machine since sunday and keep it unpluged at the wall when i'm not using it, this morning my drum was a third full of water. what could be wrong with it? ZWF 1221W

If you had it unplugged then probably the water inlet valves are not closing completely therefore allowing water to come in the tub.Just a guess, not really sure

Not draining and flooding my kitchen!

hiya
first off norah, you will need to check the pump filter as there is probably a blockage in there.

secondly guest, sounds like a faulty pressure switch or even a small hole in the pressure pipe, thats why your machine will not stop filling.

hope these help

please dont forget to rate the helpfulness of this reply thanks kj
