Question about Audio Players & Recorders

2 Answers

I have purchased a used CD-Xp 120 cd and radio player. I am unable to receive the AM radio stations. On the rear of unit where aerial wires plug in there is a tiny 3 pin plug with the words AM Loop written below it. There is nothing plugged into this , is this the problem and how can i fix it ?

Hello,
Yes this is the problem. Some of the more powerful FM radio stations may not need to have an antenna to pick up but for AM you will not receive anything until you go by an AM antenna. They basically all have the same plug style for AM antennas. Go get one, plug it in and set it on your shelf and you will receive all the AM stations from your area. The antenna will be a circular shape with a plastic casing that encompasses the wire used as the actual antenna. Cost you $10 dollars. I found one like the one you need here http://compare.ebay.com/like/150567537585?ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar It says off a SONY but like I said they are interchangeable. Don't be fooled by these fancy $40 loop antennas. They are unnecessary.
Regards, Tony

Yes, that is the problem - the radio does not have a AM antenna. You must install one - basically it's just a long wire (that you must install under the full length of the dash) that goes from first pin to the last. Preferably you should install the one that came with the radio. If you weren't the one that did the install then go back to the ones that did it and ask them to do it properly.

It's the special plug that should have come with the radio when you bought it - the center pin is for the grounding wires, the external ones for the antenna. The AM loop should have a length of at least 2 meters - if you fit it around your dash or windscreen it's more than enough.

How to wire cd player up in 2000 chevrolet malibu

I just discovered there are wiring harness adapters as I used one on my car to install a new cd player recently. I found this one on the internet not sure if it is the same car you have.
http://www.installer.com/item/display_item.php?it=71-1858
then you can buy a harness adapter from this adapter to the make of cd player like as an example Kenwood Cd player adapter.

A car auto store may know about these wiring harness adapters the advantage of using them is it makes it easy to install the cd player and if you ever decide to change the cd player in the future you can buy the adapter suited to the future player and plug it into the malibu car wiring adapter as the car adapter converts the factory wiring into a universal wiring standard.

A tip
make sure the radio and cd player works and the climate control work properly before completely re assembling the dash board .
I forgot the aerial cable plug !

Just installed the unit into vehicle and can not get tuner to lock onto any stations. Thoughtrs?

Sometimes the aerial connectors don't fit tightly and can come off when seating the radio into the cage, try pulling the radio and powering it when it's out of the dash and still connected.

Good luck

either the antenna wire has become unplugged from the back of the radio, or there is something wrong at the antenna.

Remove the dash panels in front of the head unit. Remove the screws that hold the head unit in place. Pull it out slowly and carefully. Look for a thick black wire that is unplugged from the back of the radio. If it is plugged in, make sure its in all the way. If it isn't simply plug it in.

If you find that the antenna is plugged in, you will have to check the connect to the antenna its self.

No am reception on my car radio

You can purchase an inline booster which fits in between the aerial lead and the back of the unit with a Blue wire that wires either to the 'Peak on' - (AMP on switch wire) or the ignition live wire (normally Yellow wire)
These boost the singal on all frequencies. Usual cost around $10 (£8 if UK)
Available from all car audio spcialists or Maplin if UK

You have used the worng remote output, you have used the electric aerial wire (blue) to switch on the amplifier and you should use the remote wire (blue/white).

You are finalizing the CD after recording? After finalization they should play in all but very old CD players.

..just read about your reception/interference problems and, having lived through similar situations for some time — particularly with different weather conditions. The following solution has settled it all : wrap power cable around storage brackets at back of radio with a short length then wound around support posts (between radio and cupboard from which radio hangs), then run short length to power supply outlet. In my case this result comes after much experimentation with the length of unwapped power cord (including fully unwrapped and stretched out) and different patterns of winding around the support posts. This final result takes care of everything (better sound, no interference/loss-of-reception when moving around in the room or in front of the radio, weather has no effect, stations received that could not be before due to overlap by nearby, more powerful ones). I have only about 2 1/2 feet of cable running from the brackets at back of radio, then wound once around center support and half around right support to then go to wall and down to receptacle close by (I tried all kinds of combinations of unwrapped lengths and winding patterns around 1 to 3 posts)...individual cases may be different. so GOOD LUCK, 'cause the radio is great...!
