I am replacing a single speed, 230V pool pump with a two speed 230V. Instructions recommend a SPDT switch. What kind switch am I looking for? I only want to be able to switch manually.

A (single throw double pole (SPDT) switch has three connectors and is used normally as an ON OFF switch. You connect the mains active wire to the center connector on the switch and a wire (switched active) from the other connector on the switch to the active connection on the pump.
The switch must be rated 240V with current rating suitable for the pool pump.
Mains electricity is dangerous if you do not know what you are doing.
AND main wiring must be installed to the various regulation codes.
If you are not familiar with mains wiring then I suggest you get an electrician to wire up your pump.

what you are looking for is a 1 hp square flange motor, and yes that one will work, as long is it the same hp as the origanal moto that came on the pump ! you might consider having the old motor rebuilt, search your area for your local pool pump motor repair guy to insure that it gets done right.

How do I connect my Jandy AE-TI heat pump to my intermatic T104P3

1) Copy following link for wiring illustration ... assuming timer is supposed to control pool pump:
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/T104-to-contactor.jpg

2) T104P is 240Volt (208-277V) SPDT timer in P plastic outdoor enclosure.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html#T104

3) Jandy AE-TI is 208/230V pool heater.
http://www.bestbuypoolsupply.com/media/aemanual.pdf

4) Page 13 of Jandy manual shows single-phase residential wiring diagram.

5) First of all, power to main contactor is not interruped by timer, since this powers 24Volt transformer that controls the chip board and general operation.

6) The timer is connected to 'Auto-heat contactor.'
The confusion is what Load connects to this contactor? The water pump? Load is shown on diagram as 'pump time clock.'
I assume the load is the PUMP??

My pool originally had a 2 speed AO Smith pump motor. Several years back it was replaced with an AO Smith single speed motor. I am replacing that motor with a new AO Smith single speed Centurion Switchless...

Is it going to run on 230V then? If so you would normally use red and black. The white wire should be a neutral and the ground wire is obviously ground.

Do you have a meter you can use to confirm the voltage between the wires? If you do you'll want to start with red and white since you seem to think black was not being used before. If the voltage reads 230 and the motor is set up for 230 then attach one wire to L1 and the other to L2...it will not matter which is connected where as long as one is on each terminal. Insulate the black and ground the ground lead to the motor ground screw.

If the voltage is not 230 between those two check between red and black. If that is the 230 then insulate white and put red and black to L1 and L2.

It sounds like you need to purchase a 2-speed switch for the rear of your super pump. With your current set-up, you will only be able to connect either a low speed, or a high speed and not both.
If you confiirm this via my e-mail, I can further guide you as to what you need to do next. If you just want to connect the high speed for now I can also help with that. By the way, are both purple wires solid in color, or does one have a black stripe on it?

If this post has helped you, please take the time to vote positively for me after reading this.

Do Magnum Force Pumps have a reset switch ?

No jacuzzi magnums do not have a reset button. First make sure breaker to pool is off, then remove rear motor cover, and take a look. Popping noise sounds like an arked wire. Could be a bad terminal or just aloose power wire. JACUZZI PUMPS ARE GOOD QUALITY, AND USSUALLY RUN FOR MANY YEARS. Pump can be removed for repaair, or motor replacemant by a qualified, and republe pool shop, for rebuilding Ussually rebuilding is about half the cost of new. Kirk
