Question about Lincoln Electric K1297 AC/DC 225/125 Stick Welder

Open Question

We borrowed a lincoln arc 225 and welded with it, but when we changed the amp selector switch, it was hard to move then broke free and clicked. When we turned it on after changing amps, no spark. No spark on any settings. We think the switch broke. It still clicks on the settings, but something must be wrong. We were going to get into the welder, but stopped short when we noticed a capacitor. Didn't have any way to discharge it. Are there replacement parts avail for the amp switch? The welder is kind of old. Code 9221-910.

Lincoln electric ac/dc arc welder will not arc

Check the dial indicator. Sometimes if someone changes the amps while welding, there will be a break in the coil. It will work at a different setting as long as you are away from the break.

Welder is not sending strong arc

maybe its your volts too. make sure you are grounded properly and clean from debri's, strike the electrode like a match and keep the arc close to your work-piece. dont go too fast and make sure your not wearing to strong of a lens in your hood. gold lens number 10 are the best for 7018 rods.

Lincoln AC/DC 225 control dials inoperative

the only way you can get a repair manual is to be a service shop, but what your saying is the dial turns with no resistance.did anyone turn the dial while someone was welding?if so the dial has to be replace, what happens is the contacts inside the unit weld together becuase once the dial is turning it breaks contact then makes contact welding the dial in place. You would not be able to turn the dial.so if the dial turns very easy I would check to see if the dial handle is loose on its shaft.the unit can be taken apart but it just takes a little time.it is a very basic unit with not to many internal parts.good luck, you can fix the problem.
