Try to use a terms other than, it won't start. It makes it sound like it is running on gas. First are you sure you have power where it is plugged in? Take it to a different plug and try it. Does the extension cord work. Go to a plug that you know for sure works and plug in the saw without the extension. If it works its either extension is screwed or other plug has no power. If you have a GFI somewhere in the circut it may have tripped and killed the other plugs in the circuit. Resert the GFI and try again. If it works the GFI must have tripped. Be ready for it to do it again. If it doesn't work check that plug again to see if a lamp or something works. If you use the lamp make sure the bulb is not burned out. This should give you more info to help assess. Hope it helps

There is no problem as long as the bar is the right bar and the new chain you use is the right pitch for the sprocket that is on your saw.

How to start poulan 18 inch wildthing chainsaw

Hello Wade,
There should be starting instructions on back on saw, if not its usually the same for most saws. Fill tank with proper mixed fuel. Add bar and chain oil if necessary. Pull knob out to "start" position. Pull choke all the way out. Prime unit 6 times. Place saw firmly on floor, slide right foot under handle and have left hand firmly on top handle. Pull throttle and lock it in high. Pull rope 4 to 5 times until unit pops. Then, set chock lever on half.(this is usually pushing in half way). Pull rope again 4 to 5 times until unit starts, then after 30 seconds or so push choke knob in to turn choke off. If this procedure doesn't work, give it 10 minutes or so, because unit may be flooded, then try again. Good luck!

Poulan " Wild Thing

It is running lean, they always need to run a little on the rich side free running, once the engine is loaded it will then need the excess fuel, it runs ok without the bar and chain because there is no load, start by replacing the fuel filter in the fuel tank, check the fuel hose up to the carb for signs of fuel leakage, replace if reqired, if the carb has standard adjuster screws, increase the H screw by 1/4 turn out ( anto clockwise ) this will richen the mixture.

I HAVE A POULAN PRO 260 42cc 18 inch THAT IS 5 yrs old REPLACED BAR AN CHAIN . WENT TO CUT SOME TREE LIMBS CAN NOT EVEN MAKE ONE FULL CUT AN CHAIN COMES OFF AFTER 4 TIMES WENT AN RENTED ONE.

Remove the new chain and compare it against the old one. Do the new drive teeth match the 'pitch' of the old chain? If incorrect, the chain cannot be adjusted properly and will 'climb' over the sprocket due to the chain teeth not matching the teeth on the drive sprocket. Getting the proper chain is the answer in this case. Hope this helps!
