Question about Sony MHC-GSX75 CD Shelf System

1 Answer

I have had the system since new (2004), the power to the unit is always on, so in standby mode. Recently I went to turn on the unit with the remote and it did not power on, so I tried the on/off button on the unit still no success. There is power to the unit as the on/off button has a red backlight and this can be confirmed by disconnecting and reconnecting from mains power, which should of course have the clock flashing as the power was disconnected and reconnected. Typically the system is used as a minimum twice a week, so it has not been sitting idle for any length of time. Could it be a fuse that needs replacing?

Note that the system was working perfectly up until a few weeks ago, and has continually been on power (standby) What I have done to try and "reset" the system is to turn off the power at the power point. I have then turned the power back on and there is no blinking of the display as you describe, and as I would expect after interrupting power to the system. What I see is "-- - : - - " no blinking. If I then push the on/off button this does not have any effect.

I have the manual, so don't need that, and I referred to the manual before contacting Fixya.

You have suggested that the problem may be that the power supply inside the system has a problem, if this is the case why would the display show "-- - : - - " and the on/off button be backlit in red? To me that seems as though it is getting power, well somewhere anyway.

How do I check if it could be a DC fuse fault, or and IC output fault? It seems that this is more likely the problem, so need to know how to check this out, thanks

I have "pressed clear and Display" buttons, and this has not helped at all.

I believe that you have confirmed to me that there is nothing that as a
user I can access to "reset" the system and that the problem is related
to something internal that will need to be serviced by a Sony service dealer.

    Thanks for your help

Yes, it confirmed what I thought the problem maybe, and also ensured that I followed any and all self analysis steps to attempt to rectify the problem.

Hello
If display starts flashing as soon as yoy plug in the power cord even though you have not turned on the system, check power cord and speaker cord are corretly ad firmly connected first. Press the DISPLAY twice when the system is turned off. The demonstration appeares.
"- -:- -" appears in the display.
If a power interruption is occured, the time set will go out, and should be reseted. After you power ON the set after a power interruption, or unplug the power cord from wall socket, "Setting the clock" and "Presetting radio stations" should be done. The set should always be pluged to power, eventhough it is used. Otherwise you have to reset time settings each time you power plug the set to power.
To set the clock and to preset the radio stations, refer to page-8 and page-19 of its operation manual. If you haven't the manual, send me your email address, and I'll send it to you by return mail. I can't upload such a large file by this window, as it does not allow me to do so.If you have done all these, and still set do not work, the power supply [inside the system] has some fault. It may be due to a DC fuse fault, or and output IC fault. Just check these and inform me by Fixya. I'm happy to assist you. OK

    Hello
There is only one secondary DC volatge inside your set, from which all the other supplys has been derived. Actually your set gets this DC mains supply inside, and has the derived voltage [5VDC] for the working of system and other LED displays, and why the power backlight is on. If output Ic shorts in some way, there is a fuse resistor fitted in seris to the power supply to that IC, which in turn fuses out, cutting the power to the IC, as a protection, and therby cutting all voltages to the tonal and tunier sections. There is now only [5VDC] is specified is there present in your system. To show any display, the secondary voltages said above, which has been not preset now, should be. In some sets there will be a backup battery will be there inside it to save the settings of the display and other, during power failure. some may ahve it as external to its, ia a seperate battery compartment, in otheres it will be inside [Lithium battery] solders to printed circuit board, systme section. If this battery will get damaged, last position memmory will not hold on; and all system settigns will go out as power interrupts. But there is no sign orr idication about this on the manual of your syste. Therefore, if there is any, it will be inside your systm's circuit board. Anyway "Press Clear and Display buttons on the main unit at the same time to set the device to its factory settings. If there is no display at all, you have to open your set, and check the voltages in the main supply and sub boards. Especially voltages at the system section, and display driver section. OK.

Yes. It is best toet repaired at Suthroded Sony Service Center, as you can't access its internal cirucit without getting its schematic diagam. A sound knoledge in both digital and analogue electronics is needed to repair this problem. OK.

Sony dab fc7 wont power on

Two thing here.
#one the internal fuse has blown unlikely as the standby light is powered.
Two the power supply unit or switch is faulty.

get some one electrical component with the unit unpluged open the case and check any internal fuses have not blown.
Two check capacities on the power board these are large cylindrical shaped objects. These can dry out and or exploded if faulty relatively cheap to replace.
Second check the power switch actual powers the unit again someone with a multi meter and electrical compertent.
It is probably worth replacing either a capacity or switch anything else may prove false economy
I have replaced power board on other units but to be honest unless the unit was very expensive I would buy new

I can't turn demo mode off or Standby from flashing on my Sony CMT-MX550i, can't turn unit off without unplugging it.

Sony CMT-MX550i -- I had good results by pressing the "TIMER MENU" button on the remote and simply setting the time. After that, no more demo.

We recently purchased a boat that has a bose system but we cannot get sound through the speakers. Appears to be in standby mode. How do we get it off standby mode.

Hi, after rigorous investigation at the Bose website the best answer I could come up with is that bose says to touch the " top center of the control pod "-main unit? It goes into a muted mode when plugged in or when headphones are inserted. Also apparently when unit is plugged in and powered on you must hit a " source " button on remote ie.: radio-dvd-tv etc.. the full manual is also available to view or download from Bose's website Bose.com, I hope this was useful, and thank you for asking FixYa, good luck-Prodzilla.

NEC LT240 has Power, Status & Lamp indicators lit & wont turn on!

If your bulb finally reaches it's end before you have the chance to replace it you unit will shut itself down and go into a permanent standby mode. Changing the bulb alone will not remedy the issue. The solution is quite simple but not posted in the manual or anywhere else that I could find for that matter! All that is required is to hold down the HELP button on your remote for 10 seconds while aiming at the infrared sensor on the unit. This will reset the units bulb timer and remove it from the standby mode.

Fisher ca 9025 amplifier

The amp is in protect mode. Something in the final stage is defective. This is usually caused by shorted output transistors. This unit is worth getting repaired. Expect a parts cost in the $25-$50 range.

You could always try to force it into standby mode and back out again:
Press [í/I, POWER] on the main unit to switch the unit to standby.
Wait about 30-60secs.
Now press [í/I, POWER] on the main unit again to turn the unit on.
If that doesn't take care of it, everything thing I've found points toward a replacement of components inside the system by a repair service. Hopefully you are still under warranty!

Remote quit working on Sharp HT-DP3000

I know this answer is kinda late for the original poster but I have that system and have been using it for more than three years with no remote. All you do is plug it in, the unit should be in stand by mode, then press the large power button on the front off and then on. The unit will click and then power on. :)

Hi jamz.
I see this is a pretty ancient posting so you've probably fixed it or given up by now.
I also own a CA-350 Amp which I purchased many years ago here in Auckland NZ.
I've recently had it in bits to fix so if you're still looking for a solution I may be able to offer you some help.
If so, you can contact me at martymarvel@hotmail.com
