It could be a defective defrost timer if you have lights and NO fans running nor compressor starting you maybe able to tell if it shut off about every 5-8 hrs. Now if it shut off after every cool cycle then I would tap the refrig temp control with a firm tap if the frig starts then it is a defective operating thermostat.

The divider wall between the fridge and freezer stays very hot to the touch. Possibly the defrost mechanism is stuck??? Any ideas?

Check the fan which cools the compressor . Sometimes something gets caught in the blade . Also check that the coils at the front bottom are clean . If the motor is not turning and nothing obstructing the fan blade , replace the motor ( condensor motor )

My maytag is running all the time and the refrigerator does not keep anything cold, the freezer does not freeze but will keep things cold. What could be the problem?

Check the compressor fan. Make sure it is turning. If the fan is not turning, heat is not removed from the coils. This heat must be transmitted to the outside air for the refrigerant cycle to work properly.

This fan should be at the bottom of the unit near the rear. If it's not turning, the fan motor will need to be replaced.

Refrigerator Keeps running

Replacing the thermostat should correct the problem. Be sure to install the thermstat exactly as the one you are removing, assuming it hasn't been changed prior. Hope this helps
