Kenmore side by side model number 596.58642890 or 596.58647890, Where is the water filter located? The water is tasting bad and for the life of me I cannot locate it!!

Unfortunately, your fridge may not have one. Sears parts direct has the entire parts list for your refrigerator. I do not see a filter on any page. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/Model-59658647890/0582/0165000?sid=PDVertical and http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/Model-59658642890/0582/0165000?sid=PDVertical .

In general, there are three places to look for a filter: in the bottom grill almost centered on the freezer side of the refrigerator, in the fridge above the top shelf, or behind the vegetable drawer in the refrigerator.

For the ones in the grill, you will see a circle that you need to push in before it pops out.

I wish that I had better news for you.

Lights on, sounds like running, everything thawed

Check your compressor, the relay and the computer board. These are all located at the back of the fridge if all check out ok, then check your thermostat

Kenmore fridge and freezer not cooling

Check to see if there is any ice built up on the back wall of the freezer. If so thaw the ice and take the back wall out of the freezer. next check to see if the fan is running in the freezer (evaporator fan) This fan is what circulates the air from the freezer to the fridge. If it does run then you have a defrost problem (if ice is on the coils and back wall). Then replace defrost timer, heater, and thermostat.

Kenmore cold spot refrigerator freezer

I would look to the condenser where the heat is removed from the refrigeration system for your problem. Check and make sure the condenser fan operates, check the compressor for operation. If the condenser is plugged with dust it will cause the compressor to cycle on its thermal overload protector. Normally in back there is a removable panel to access the condenser and compressor area. make sure you reinstall the cover after you are done. It is critical to proper operation and cooling of the system.
