Question about Maytag Neptune MLE2000A Front Load Stacked Washer / Dryer

Washer doesn't tumble, but makes a loud noise. Sounds like power to the motor is oscillating on and off, causing a buzzing.

Belt looks OK, shaft looks straight. The buzzing seems to come from the motor housing. The motor have internal controller/contacts? The noise doesn't sound like phasing, but more like contacts buzzing. Tom

Belt is OK, shaft looks straight. Buzzing sound is the motor/housing. Not the sound of phasing, but the buzz of contacts.

  • Tom Hubisz Apr 09, 2011

Tomorrow, I can pull the motor and check the shaft connection, if that's possible.

  • Tom Hubisz Apr 09, 2011

Drums turns without drag or noise.

  • Tom Hubisz Apr 09, 2011

Is there an overweight switch that could be hokey?

  • Tom Hubisz Apr 09, 2011

Gotta get some sleep. I'll check back tomorrow. Tom

  • Tom Hubisz Apr 09, 2011

Removed the belt and checked the motor by hand. Shaft is solid, rotates freely and smoothly.

  • Tom Hubisz Apr 09, 2011

drum doesn't tumble. Beginning of cycle. Loud, buzzing noise from motor housing.

  • Tom Hubisz Apr 09, 2011

Guess I have to now decide,,,, fix or replace the washer. It has broken two other times. Thanks all. Tom

I need you to take the back cover off and check and see if the belt is in place or if it is broken. This sounds like your belt is bad or the shaft on the motor has become disconnected. Let me know what you find. There should be a panel on the back with 4 screws that need removed to acces the belt.

Can you turn the drum by hand? these have a bad history of tub bearings going bad and it may be locked up.

I am trying my hardest to rule out the motor control board, but these machines WILL burn up "motor control boards",and "Door motors" and appears to have a problem with it's high-tech circuitry - it shorts out regularly. It is not a question of if, only when. When it stops mid cycle, or won't spin, start calling the repair number

Ok I know how that goes I work 12hr shift then do the comuter thing for hours, I will check in the morning and then again in afternoon. I don't think you have a shaft issue, just wanted to rule that out, like I said these seem to burn the motor control board up pretty reguraly. Depending on the age of your machine you might want to contact Maytag and see if there is any Warranty. I know they extended the warranty on some of these machines due to these issues.

Can you determine that the noise is coming from the motor?

If it is the motor buzzing and you have voltage at the motor then I have to say your motor is bad, but I still am leaning towards that pesky motor control board that is usually a problem on this machine. No voltage at the motor when turned on, or low voltage, then the control board is not sending the correct current to the motor. These motors should read out at 115-120 volt. I will check back later and see what you find, its my bed time now.

Why does my gas dryer make a loud vibration noise?

Hey friend, I appreciate your post!

I understand that your Electrolux gas dryer is making a loud vibration noise and is also loud while tumbling. There are several components in your dryer that could be causing this noise. Based off what you are describing it might be an issue with your suspension rollers, motor, or pulley. Since it could be any of these underlying issues I would suggest getting a technician out to diagnosis and repair your dryer. Hope this is helpful. - Matt

It sounds like you have a motor coupling that is broken. There are videos on YouTube to show you how to repair this. Search for "motor coupling repair on direct drive".

Kenmore 80 series washer won't spin just makes a loud buzzing noise.

Possible that the motor is not moving , could be a faulty capacitor to the motor. Also check for the free movement of the agitator, if the shaft is tight then it can cause a drag on the motor.

Makes loud buzzing sound when first turn on then fads to a low noise after about 5min have disconect all apps turn all of tele still buzzes

This is a Switchmode transformer, a Choke, "Buzzing" this is happening because something is "Ringing" and causing the windings to vibrate and thus produce an audible signal, this usually happens prior to a unit faulting and is caused by too much current, or the incorrect oscillation frequency, overloading it, and it makes a noise due to it. You need to get this attended to, as it may, fail, and cause a fire or an explosion, or both.

MY WASHER WILL NOT SPIN. iT MAKES A LOUD BUZZING

Sounds like a broken motor coupler for sure, the motor shaft will still spin the drain pump, but drive between the motor and transmission is lost. Part# 285753A. Have fun. If you need breakdown info let me know.

because of the grinding noise your talking about it sounds like the motor bearings are bad which would require motor replacement. but, thats normally not what cause the " not completly turning problem" your having. general thats cause be the motor speed control not sending the proper power to the motor. remove the belt and turn the motor by itself to see if the noise is really come from the motor and not the back of the tub. if it is the motor, replace the motor. if it coming from the back of the tub the replace the motor speed control. the noise coming from the back of the tub would just be the ball bearings and they do make some noise on this model but you wont hear it when the washer is running

only thing may make a buzzing sound is a relay not making up or a motor contactor not closing all the way.
