Hello Sarah,

Welcome to FixYa.

You've haven't specified if this is a new washer or recently installed, or perhaps it's just new to you, but here`s what I find is most common when dealing with the symptom you`ve described ( as long as water isn't filling over the top )

I'd suspect the drain hose is lying down on the floor or is pushed down into the stand-pipe too far.

If the drain hose is below the water level entering the washer it will siphon out immediately. The drain hose must be above the highest point the washer has to fill, ( refer to your manual, but it is typically recommended to be about "48 to "60 in height but not more than 90" or so )

i.e.

washer wont get past first part of cycle, water - macmarkus_512.jpg

I realize the print there is small, so I've typed it out here...

**The standpipe drain requires a minimum diameter standpipe of 2" (5 cm). The minimum carry-away capacity can be no less than 17 gal. (64 L) per minute. A 2" (5 cm) diameter to 1" (2.5 cm) diameter standpipe adapter kit is available. " The top of the standpipe must be at least 39" (99 cm) high and no higher than 96" (244 cm) from the bottom of the washer.**

Also if it is in a stand pipe insure it isn't pushed in too far, just a few inches and then secure it without completely covering over the opening or that too will cause it to siphon.

Check your drain hose. Let me know if this was indeed the case and if so please rate the solution accordingly. If not we can move forward from there.

Thank's for coming to FixYa and good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Washer wont fill up during rinse cycle

all rinse cycles are filled with cold water to keep the clothes from wrinkling.set up the washer to run with just cold water.start it,if no water comes into washer, shut down your house water valve that fills the washer, take off the cold water hose, stick it in the washer or if there's a sink or where ever and turn on the water,if water comes out of the hose then you need a new water valve on the washer

The water pipes have been freezing up for the past two nights, got them thawed out, and started a load of laundry set on cold. Washer started normal, it made a small click noise as allways, and the water...

Have you taken the hose off of the back of the washer and checked to see if you are getting water to that point. Also check the inlet screen on the fill valve to see if it is clean.. You may need to replace the fill valve. There may be a screen in the inlet of the hose at the shut off valves.....So check both ends of the washer hose..... I would check the hoses first before I would replace the fill valve....Hope this helps

WATER IN WASHER WONT SHUT OFF

Hi and welcone to FixYa. I am Kelly. When water wont shut off no matter what you do the problem is inside of the water valve assy. Usually there is a small bit of debris in the diaphram center hole that is holding the water passage open.

Here is what you can try to do to clear if BEFORE replacing the eater Valve.

1. Get a bucket
2. Turn off both water supply hoses momentarily
3. Set the water temp to warm
4. Remove ONE hose from the wall connection and place the hose in a the bucket.
5. Turn on the remaning connected hose/
6. Start machine fill cycle and tap the hose connection at the water valve on the back of the machine with either a screw driver or hammer handle.

Timer OFF

REVERSE HOSE CONNECTIONS ON THE WALL CONNECTION.

7. Place the other hose in the bucket
8. Start Fill cycle.
9. Again tap the hose connection at the water valve
10. Stop timer.
11. Reconnect both hoses and test for water flow with timer off.
12. Start fill cycle
13. Rapidly select hot and cold wash water.
14. STOP fill cycle.
15. Remove each hose individually from the water valve one at a time.
16. Use a knive blade and remove the inlet screen from the water valve. Wash screen under slowly running water rubbing it clean with your fingers. Re install screen. Reconnect water hose.
17. Repeat step 16 for opposite hose and screen.
18. Turn on water supply.
19. Test for proper filling and water stopping by starting and stopping fill cycle.

If it works you got lucky. If you still have the problem you will need to change the water valve. Either one of these water valves will work on your machine:

Washing machine wont hold water on any setting

raise the main drain hose to the top of the back control head. there may be a problem with the main hose being to low and the water is gravity siphoning out of the washer.make sure the washer is off when you lift the hose up but do not remove it from the wall, you should here water drain out once it has stopped draining restart you machine and it should fill to the proper level and quit then go into your wash cycle

Water runs but doesn't fill tub and wont spin if put on spin cycl

The water-level switch regulates your washer's fill volume. This switch is usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. If the switch is defective, it may prematurely signal the water to shut off. If so, you probably need to replace the water-level switch.
