Question about Honeywell Strong Alarm Sa-avd1 Auto Dialer Ademco, Dsc, Ge, Lk

Open Question

I have purchased an SA-AVD1 Auto Dialer and hooked it up to an ADEMCO alarm system I connected the yellow+ and green- to terminals 3 and 4 (horn output) and red+ and black- to terminals 4 and 5(+). It goes into self test mode (I think) counts down to 1 then a 5 appears. I programmed it for 2 phone numbers. I pressed "test" on the ademco panel to test the alarm (horn). I did not receive a call on my cell (programmed number). The display on the dialer shows a lowercase zero blinking and I can hear a relay actuating. Is there any way I can send the number by typing in a code on the dialer? At least this way, I can see if it is dialing out. Also there are lights (A to D) Are these supposed to light corresponding to phone numbers programmed in? They don't have any online documentation that I could refer to or a phone number for support?

SOURCE: ADEMCO alarm system indicates A/C not ready.

Turn the alarm off two times. If it still indicates A/C not ready, press the * key and it will tell you what zone is open or what zone has a low battery.

SOURCE: our Ademco 6160 PL3 alarm system keypad has an error message

It is located inside a tan colored metal box 12"wide by 15" tall and 4" deep; unless it is flush mounted, then only .5" deep. inside you will most likely find a 12 volt 4 or 5 or 7 amp hour battery. Note; the door may have a lock on it. I have found the key on top of the box, in the lock, and unlocked. The box could be located anywhere but, many times in closets, utility rooms, garages, crawl spaces, etc.

Go to your favorite search engine, Google or whatever, and use the phrase "Ademco Lynx Installation Manual". It has the instructions you need. You may have to look through 5 or 6 hits, but you can download the manual for free.

And please stop shouting. ;-)

The system randomly beeps

If it is wireless, then one or more of the switches need a new battery. I suggest replace them all and mark the date inside the box. I assume that there is no yellow triangle showing on the alarm panel. Triangle is for no phone connection.

Ademco-749 speaker how to install

There are 4 wires on the 749. Two white and two black. The two black wires connect to the bell or siren output of your alarm panel. The 649 needs 6 to 12VDC to work. The two white wires are for a built in tamper switch that can be connected to a zone on your panel if you want.

Hope this helps

The horn honks when I reconnect the battery

If the horn only honked once it may be a symptom of your car alarm being set off after power has been re-applied. If the horn stays on after you reconnect the battery you have either a stuck horn button on your steering wheel or a stuck horn relay. Or it could be the alarm sounding the horn but that usually that occurs in a series of horn blasts (rather than continuous) and the car indicators usually flash in sync with the alarm sounding.
If the horn is stuck on in a continuous blast ie not sounding on and then off and then on etc etc, disconnect one the battery cables then pull the fuse that feeds the horn or pull off one of the removable spade electrical connectors from one of the 2 terminals on the horn itself. Usually the fuse box is either under the dashboard on the drivers side or could be under the hood. Consult your user manual for your car for fuse and horn locations.
If the horn is stuck you need to visit a qualified auto electrician, or perhaps you have a friend who knows his way around auto electrics?

Telephone disconnected from first alert professional alarm system

The phone wires run from directly from the telephone company connection to the alarm on the red and green. They return on the other two wires. These wires are hooked to your home phones. That's the UL way to do it. The alarm is supposed to be the first device on the telephone line. You can just run a phone line to the alarm panel. There probably is a diagram inside the cabinet door or a phone jack very near the alarm.

Leave a short jumper wire between the tamper terminals.
Connect red to +12v and black to -12v on the Motion Detector.
Connect red to Terminal-5 and black to Terminal-4 on the Vista-15P

Connect Green & Yellow to the alarm terminals on the Motion Detector,
Connect Green & Yellow to the desired zone on the vista panel, be
sure to add in your EOL 2K resistor (if using them) in series along
either the Green or Yellow, preferably at the motion, but can be in the
panel box if it's not a "high security risk" install (most residential
systems have them in the box, although any security professional
will say it's not "proper" but go ahead and check other boxes, you'll see).
I think BRINKS is the only one to do the true "end of line" procedure,
but it's a royal pain in the @$$ if you ever change panel types, you have
to pull every wired sensor out just to change the resistors, and if it's a
prewire (put in when the house was built) it's nearly impossible without
rendering the wire run useless unless there's a lot of slack on the line.

Check your vista installers manual for the rest! Good luck!
