Hooked up a HP photosmart C5280 to a 13 inch MacBook but the computer will not allow me to type in the name of the printer nor does the printer name pop up when I hit the plus sign to add a printer. Computer message keeps telling me the printer is "off line" whatever offline means.

Dear Friend,

Do as following

Do not connect your printer to your PC.
First Install the software that came alongwith the printer in an installation CD.
After drivers are installed, it will prompt to connect your printer & put the printer power switch on , & at this point your printer will be detected by your PC.

Hope this helps you..

Proper wiring my hp pavilion p6 2330pc and my hp printer

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=5296967&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en

1) DO NOT connect printer to computer!

2) Put the Installation Disk for the printer, in the optical drive of your computer. (Comes with the printer)
If you do not have this disk, post back in a Comment.

You will download the software from HP Support.
I need the printer model name, and model number.
Also what Windows operating system you are using.

(It cannot be assumed what Operating System you are using.
May not be the one that came with the computer)

If you have the Installation Disk, load ALL software.
(One example; HP Photosmart Full Feature Software & Drivers)

[Driver: Small piece of software that allows the Operating System to communicate with a device

The device is the Printer. The O/S wasn't stated.

The Full Feature software covers all the software the printer needs.
If it is a unit that can Scan, Copy, Print, and Fax, for example;
all of that software will be loaded ]

ONCE the software is loaded, restart your computer if not asked.
After Windows has loaded again, let the computer run for a few minutes.

Now restart the computer.
(WinXP example; Start > Turn Off Computer > Restart)

Plug the USB cable from the printer into the computer.
Turn the printer on.

After a few seconds you should get a pop-up in the taskbar,
"Found new hardware device"
And perhaps another one,
"Found HP XXXXX device "

(X's stands for model name/number of printer)

IF,.......you have connected the printer FIRST, then attempted to install software -> This = NO.

You can get a driver conflict.
Post back in a Comment if this is what you have done.

[When a device (Printer in this case), is connected, Windows 'breaks it's neck' to find suitable, matching drivers.

If THE drivers are not there, Windows will pick from it's THOUSANDS of generic drivers.

Now you you install THE drivers needed, and there is a driver conflict;

Windows: "Which ones do I use? These or THESE?" ]

Post the printer model name, and model number. This can be found on the Back of the printer.

(This is the type of USB cable end, that usually plugs into a printer,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_connector#Cable_plugs_.28USB_1.x.2F2.0.29

Type B. It is also a Male plug. So it's a USB B Male.

Square shape with two corners cut off.

The USB A Male connector is the one that plugs into the computer.
(Type A)

Rectangle shape )

Click on -
HP Compaq dc5000 Series Service Reference Guide 2nd Edition
(2 Apr 2004 / 4.61MB)

This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
After you click on the above file name, it may take up to 30 seconds before the first page comes up.

Removal and Replacement Procedures - Small Form Factor (SFF) Chassis - Page 95. (Page number box at top )

Page 98 -

"2) Pull up and hold open the latch on the top of the computer."

"3) Slide the computer access panel back about 0.5 Inch (1/2 Inch, or 1.3Cm), then lift off the unit."

The Access Panel has tabs formed out of it's sheet metal construction. These tabs have a hooked end. The hooked end must be brought towards the back of the computer, so it will be free of the matching slot in the metal frame of the computer case.

Then it can be lifted up, and off.

Included the Service Manual, for questions you may have in the future.

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

Macbook and wireless n setup how do you set it up????!!!!!

Can you clarify the problem for me:

1. Mac Type = Macbook
2. Operating System = Mac OS ?
3. What are you trying to connect to?

For example are you trying to set up a Wireless Home network, meaning that iPhones, iPods or other macs can share the one Internet Connection. This is called a Computer-to-Computer Network.

OR are you trying to configure a Wireless Modem to work with your MacBook?

Setting up a Computer-to-Computer Network is done by:

1. Select System Preferences from the Apple Menu.
2. Select Network from the Internet & Wireless section.
3. Select Airport from the list of devices.
4. Click the Turn Airport On button, located next to Status. NOTE: If it is already turned on then this button will read Turn Airport Off.
5. Select Create Network from the drop down menu adjacent Network Name.
6. Type in the preferred name that you wish to call your network in the Name field. (ie., MacBookHomeNetwork or something)
7. Select the Channel (Channel 11) is an OK one to select.
8. Choose whether you want the user to type in a password to gain access to your network. (This is recommended.) If you do, then click the check box beside Require Password.
8.1 Type in the Password into the Password field.
8.2 Type the Password again into the Verify field.
8.3 Select the type of encryption you want to use, 40bit or 128bit.
9. Click the Show Airport status in Menu Bar check box.

NOTE: If you require advanced settings, then click the Advanced ... button.

10. Apply and then go back to the System Preferences window (using the Left Arrow located top/left of window). If you get stuck, get back using Instruction No.1 above.)
11. Click the Sharing Icon in the Internet & Wireless section.
12. Select from the list each item you wish to share (i.e, File, Printer, Bluetooth, Internet, DVD or CD etc...).

NOW : From your other device, you need to locate the new Wireless Network Connection.

If it is an iPhone or iPod then go to the Settings menu and select Wi-Fi from the list. The new network should be picked up automatically. Log in to it (if you set up passwords).

I hope this helps. Regards,

Installing hp printer to dell desktop

Go to www.hp.com, click support. Type in the box about halfway down in the middle of the page the exact model that's on the printer, like - officejet pro 7710xi, that will take you to the drivers page for that printer, find the one that says Full feature software, download it, first unplug your printer from the computer, then run the software and follow the instructions

"Error: 0xc18a0106"

0xc18a0106 indicates an "ink failure" with your HP Photosmart printer. The resolution is to clean the print heads. You can do this by turning off the computer and taking a Q-tip made slightly wet with isopropyl alcohol. Allow the print heads to dry before you start printing again.

HP Photosmart

It sounds like the .dll has been corrupted. Try uninstalling the HP software and the printer. Shutdown the computer, wait half a minute or so and then start it again. Once the computer ias fully started, reinstall the printer and the software.

Let me know how it works out for you. Good luck!
