SOURCE: jvc video camera

I'm sorry to disagree, but the usual problem with this symptom is a stuck iris in the lens assembly. With the camera on, try gently tapping the side of the lens area. The iris may be jarred loose. If not, then the camera needs to be opened and the iris assembly rebuilt. This is not a job for the novice. Expect a repair bill in the $150 range. There should be no parts required.

SOURCE: Camera lens cover will not fully open

Maybe not a remedy for everyone but, I tapped all around the lense with a soft wood ruler stopping to turn the camera off and on periodically. I noticed a lot of sand, we live at the beach, came loose. It took me a little while to do this as I was being caeful not to damage anything else on the camera. Finally, the cap just opened and has ever since. Good luck.

I just got my Panasonic HDC-SD80 in the post. I am charging it but tried to turn it on just for a quick look. The camera turned on and I could scroll through the menus on the touch screen and stuff but...

sometimes this happens if there is a fault with the memory card. switch the camera off, take the battery and memory card out, leave it for 2 mins, put the battery in (DO NOT PUT THE MEMORY CARD BACK IN) wait for the message on screen saying no memory card detected. switch off camera, put memory card in, switch on the camera, this normally cures the blank lcd screen issue

On the PC, if You Tube plays good HD videos then the problem is either the format that the camera is putting out or the Codecs in the computer. See if Panasonic have computer software to put on the computer. It is usually on the disc that came with the camera, or available online.

found this.Looks like it needs converting.

The lens cover on my Pansonic HDC TM300 won't open up. I can hear a motor trying to open it when switched on. If I hold open the lens cover the camcorder functions as normal.

The lens cover mechanism in these cameras is susceptible to debris and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these.
