When you say that your filter needs to be backwashed again, what exactly is making you come to that conclussion? Are you getting a reading on your pressure gauge or are you experiencing problems, such as loss of pressure and problems with your return lines? If it is just a reading, it is probably you pressure gauge going bad. This happens very often in these pool filters.

Once in awhile my pump will start returning the water at a very high pressure on and off like if its clogged making my pool shake very bad. Is there a solution to my problem?

sounds as if your getting an high back pressure from your sand filter , more often back flushes will help this from happening , also installing a prefilter on suction hose will keep large debris from entering sand filter and blinding it off , this pre filter can be purchased or made from a simple pair of used ladys stocking , but all will need to be checked often for clogging off

My Hayward sand filter is pumping sand back into pool

Normally when I run into a problem with this type of filter like the one you described there is a problem with the pick ups in the bottom of the filter unit. If you did several back flushes and now when you set it back to pump it is essentially back flushing back into the pool the problem is in your controller and it is not closing off like it is supposed to. as far as how much sand to put back int he filter I don't have that information as it is specific to the pump/filter size. A pool supply center would most likely be able to answer that question when you purchase your sand. That filter sand is not the same as sand box sand and should only be purchased from a pool supply center. The same supply center that you get your filter sand from would also be able to advise on the valve problem.

Sand being returned to the pool after vacumming through filter

This could be caused by several things. . After back flushing, did you rinse? Turned pump off, moved selector to rinse, and allowed to run until clear water was observed in the sight glass? If you continue to see the plume of particles, and it never stops, then you probably do have a problem. Your multiport valve gasket could be leaking by. Be sure you keep handle down when moving valve, and the gasket will last longer. You may have a broken, lateral (little fingers at bottom of the filter return piping. This would usually allow sand to flush out of the filter and it would be all the time. The "O" ring where the multiport valve seals to the down pipe could be leaking, letting the dirty incoming water mix with clean outgoing. Have you "cleaned" your filter lately? This is where you add a chemical to flush materials from top of sand pack? You can download a manual with troubleshooting instructions from Enter your exact model number

After you backwash the filter do you have to put in a powder through the skimmer?

If you're using a sand filter you don't use diatomite like you do on a DE filter. You should 1. Turn pump off. 2. Move valve to backwash. 3. Allow to back-flush till water is clear (check sight glass). 4 Turn pump off again. 5 Move valve to rinse 6. Turn pump on till water is clear again.7 Turn pump off, return valve to filter. 8 Turn pump back on again. No power is added to a sand filter. There are some materials to "clean" your sand perhaps twice a year, follow the manufacturer's directions for this.

We have a hayward sand filter for our 24ft round above ground pool. We changed the sand this season and replaced the 8 fingers @ the bottom of the filter tube. After doing so and turning the pump on it...

its more likley to be too much sand in it and its just cloged up,,,take the sand out and run the pump out of the pool in a big tub of water to flush it out and also to back flush it,,,if its working ok after that fill it up with the right type of sand but only a little at a time,,,,
i dont think the phosphates are a problem its not being filterd thats the problem this needs sorting out fast or the pool will fill up with algy and green slim

Pressure doesn't last & seems to blow out cloudy, dingy water

if you are on city treated water, sand will last aprox. 7 years, if on well water typically 3 - 5 years. so yes, could be a sand issue. also, double check that the there is no water trickling out the backwash / drain outlet of the filter, this could indicate that the diverter valve gasket (spider gasket) could be worn and cause sand from the filter to flow to the pool. this is a common problem if you move the position selector often with the pump still running - the pump should always be off when moving the handle. good luck!

I have a 85 elcamino that has been a project of mine for the last 2 years. My step brother and I don't get along and he put sand down the dipstick tube of the auto trans. What are my options, rebuild,...

Turbo 350 or turbo400 not that expensive to rebuild, maybe parts 60 to 80 dollars, try changing the fluid,if this fixes the problem, have a rapid lube place flush the transmission system. The filter change is the first step, the filter should have stopped the sand from getting into the transmission. But it will have stopped up the filter.
