Kenmore electric dryer making loud noise when running

It sounds like the belt that goes around the drum. I have a similar Kenmore, and I get that same rotational thumping noise. The belt is probably about to break or come apart. If you take it off and run it trough your hands, I think that you'll find either belt separation, or a bad spot missing a chunk.
Fortunately the belt is a cheap item. I've kept my Kenmore dryer running over 20 years now.

Whirlpool duet dryer felt seal replacement

The drum may to be removed to install the new felt gasket but the old drum can then be reinstalled. The felt gasket seals the joint where the drum rotates at the inside back panel. It is likely that the inside back panel can be removed when the dryer is placed front-down and the outside back panel is removed. In that case the drum does not have to come out.

I keep replacing the dryer belt, due to it keeps getting stretched out, how can i prevent it stretching?

There are only two things that I can think of, both related. 1. The drum is turning with difficulty. 2. The drum is dropped down in the cabinet letting the belt be loose. Open the dryer door and feel around the opening just inside the opening. Feel for the felt seal. Is the gap even top and bottom? My guess it's not. If not, he top part which is the support for the front of the drum is worn out, letting the drum tip down and loosen the belt. Check the rear bearing. With the belt loose, pull up on the back end of the drum. Does it move up and down in the bearing. If it does the rear bearing needs replaced. Both are simple to do.

Need to replace the front felt seal - GE gas dryer

since you got the top opened, now look inside the front panel toward top remove screws or hex screws now you can remove the front panel. Undo the door switch wires before removing the front panel. The felt seal should be glued to the front panel aroun the opening to the drum you should be able to tell where it was.

Felt belt, son pulled out from the front, inside of machine

the felt is attached to the front bulkhead to your dryer. in some cases, the dryer drum itself runs on that felt. other times, it is sitting just above the drum. if your drum actually rides on the felt, you will need to get it fixed because the glides will get worn and the drum will start to scrape on the front bulkhead. if you open the door and take out the 4 screws ( 2 on either side ) then you will be able to take off the front panel. once that is off, there is a 3/8 nut screw on either side ( on the top ) that hold the lid in place. remove those 2 screws and you can lift the top of the dryer. this will give you a better view of your dryer and the extent of the issue. Belt breakage

as well as the obvious pulleys on the belt, most dryer drums are suspended on felt or nylon glides. and a pair of load bearing wheels, separate from those supporting and tensioning the belt.
If the drum support wheels (which are a cruddy bronze bush bearing and do fail) are stuck, or the felts or nylon glides have worn allowing metal to touch metal, the extra load will break the belt.
It could have been the cause of the first belt failing too.
Open the case agan (sorry) and examine the underside of the drum for stuck support rollers, and the drum itself for felts or nylon glides. If one is worn replace them all (they come in sets anyway).
The local parts guy will likely have the parts, as there are very few, common to many dryers
Sorry this is a generic answer, but there is no model given so cant tell you whether you are looking for just rollers, just felts, just glides, or any combination of the three.

I need to replace the dryer belt

The belt on a dryer is inside the body, usually accessed and changed as follows

most base dryers
  • unplug dryer(220v is Not Fun)
  • remove lint screen
  • undo screws inside lint screen holder, screwing it to case lid (so lid can tilt up)
  • with putty knife or other blunt blade, release spring catches under front corners of case lid
  • raise case lid
  • remove screws 1/3 way down front corners of body holding front panel on
  • remove door switch cable from door switch
  • lift door off set aside
maytag
  • remove screws from bottom bend of front panel
  • lift front panel off
  • remove doo switch cable
  • sent front panel aside
  1. drum motor felts and bearings are now accessible.
  2. lift drum and withdraw fully forwards
  3. with drum removed check support rollers for free movement, check drum slides and/or drum felts for wear, easier to replace now, if worn, than have bearings or slides cause belt to break again.
  4. loop belt loosely around drum at wear marks from prior installation
  5. reinsert drum onto rollers bearings slides felts as installed.
  6. loop belt around motor pulley
  7. pull tensioner pulley against spring to end of its travel
  8. loop belt around tensioner pulley
  9. relax tensioner pulley to tighten belt
  10. rotate drum by hand to ensure belt is aligned
reassemble case in reverse order.

Notes
There are not many belt, felt, support roller sizes the local parts guy will have a belt, felt, roller to fit,

Tensioner pulley may not be in place, breaking belts often pull them out of their mounts, the pulley and spring will be lying on the case floor, there is only one way they fit in to their mounts so they are easy to reinstall

tensioner sketch is approximate, pulley may be on top run pulling down, or bottom run pushing up

the repair is easy, it takes longer to type or read this than it does to repair the dryer

Belts ~$14 Support Rollers ~$14/pair, felts/slides upto ~$25
New dryer +$200 - its a good repair

How to fit a belt on a tumble dryer

unplug the dryer,
220v is not fun
dryers are generic inside, regardless of maker
while you got it apart to replace the belt is a good time to clean out exhaust vent pipes and the squirrel cage fan, no lint, better air flow, less $$ to run
3cd9043.jpg the tensioner may push Up on the lower run.

  • open case, most front panels are removed including door, remember to disconnect door switch wires, set panel aside
  • pull drum out
  • check drum support rollers
  • check drum felts, bushes guides
  • locate tensioner pulley, belts have been known to pull them out of the mounting when it breaks, check , reinstall if out
  • pick up broken belt off floor of case
  • take belt to parts store and match it, despite the huge number of dryer models there are very few belts.
  • If any felts or rollers are worn, stuck, damaged take them too to the parts store, and replace in pairs, despite the huge number of dryer models there are very few rollers or felts
  • after ensuring rollers anf felts and bearings are serviceable, loop new belt around drum at the wear mark from prior installation, reinsert drum
  • loop new belt around motor pulley.
  • pull tensioner pulley against spring to end of motion
  • loop belt around tensioner pulley
  • allow tensioner to slowly move back by spring tension till the belt is taut
put front panel back on, plugging in door switch
plug in mains
dry clothes
takes longer to type than to do
