External hard drive problem

With my easyshare 5300 connected to my pc, i have problems with my external hard drive (Maxtor 500 GB). It is not possible to save any work done on autocad files which are on the hard drive, but works fine with the printer disconnected. Please help!

This occurs for me with any USB-connected storage device (flash drive, external hard drive, digital camera, etc). The only thing that I can think of is that it is some sort of IRQ conflict.

When attempting to save to any device, it appears to work at first, but then gets corrupted and the device must be reformatted. Everything works fine with the printer USB cable disconnected. Anybody find a solution to this one?

That's just shockingly messed up. How about if you connect the printer to a different USB controller's ports, or avert the wacky mode control the printer's driver is having on things through user control panels?

The problem is that the printer, being a composite device, takes a lot of energy from the computer USB ports. Some computers, such as some Dell computers, have problems with USB ports due to a cheap manufacturing. What I can suggest you is to simply unplug the printer when you want to use the HDD, because no matter what you do, you'll have the same problem and that's because of the computer that won't supply enough power to the USB ports.
Also, if you are using a laptop, remember to keep it plugged to the power so it can provide more energy to the USB ports.

Why doesn't my laptop boot?

you are attempting repairs from a "possible bad hard drive" The best way to approach this is to try to fix errors using external media, either a DVD or USB with your version of windows..
Alternately you can enter the C: drive in safe mode using the prompt type the following:
chkdsk /f C:\
That should report any errors and fix them with the file system. If the errors are at hardware level, then consider replacing your hard drive.
Hope it helps

Can the telefunken dvd player play movies from a external hardrive?

An external hard drive has to be installed into a system like a PC before it can be used as a storage device. however if the external hard disk is a memory storage type with a usb connectivity which is available on your telefunken DVD , then it might be able to mate with the DVD processor to display the files and play.
You have not mentioned any details of the DVD or the Hard disk.

How do you scan digit prints from my 5300 scanner/printer to put on email????????????

Hi. There are lot of way on how to transfer your documents from old compter to nerw computer. First, you may use extarnal harddrive and copy all the documents from old PC to external HD and copy it to new PC. Second, If computers are in a network you may access the old computer from the network using the new computer and copy the files. Third, you may burn all the files from the old computer and then copy it from the new computer. Fourth, you may also do direct cable (LAN) connection to copy files from your old computer.

Usb not recognized in HP Designjet 500 Plus printer. I checked it defferent computer and use defferent USB Cable Sk. Abdus Sabur

One or more of the hints below will probably sort out most USB problems with most USB portable / external hard drives and OTHER devices (though not always)

A few things to check but assumes USB and Windows for other interfaces / operating systems (mac/ Linux) similar steps may be adapted to suit.

1. Ensure it is connected directly to the computer to a USB 2.0 port not a USB 1.0 port as this can have effects on performance and reliability

2. Use only the cables that came with it NOT one that fits that may have been lying around or is longer. Not all USB cables are equal even though they should be)

3. Do not connect through an external USB HUB unless that hub is USB 2.0 AND has its own power supply.

4. Use ONLY the power supply that came with it if it has an external power supply Don’t use any other unless you know it has both the same voltage and current rating e.g. 12V 500mA anything rated below that would not work properly.

5. Always use the same port for connecting your devices. Some devices do not like being switched about. If switched they may want to install software / drivers again. This can be especially true if you move a HUB to another port

6. For FLASH DRIVES you should ensure that the device is set for "quick removal" using the drive control panel properties or use the USB "Safely Remove Hardware" option. If you dont do this there is a very strong chance that any files you transfer may not be there when you plug into another computer.
7. It is possible to remove drives from the enclosures in most cases and connect directly inside a PC to fully check it.
You should also do this to cheack the drives connections are not bad inside the enclosure.
8. If none of the above steps help look at updating the drivers from the manufacturers web site in the support section.

9. If you checked and fixed anything there and still have issues then check your hardware from CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / HARDWARE.
Any exclamation marks by hardware need fixing before you investigate any further
USB flash drives can fail for no apparent reason.
Sandisk Cruzers are especially bad for this.

USB hard drives should be treated with extreme care.
This is a real hard drive ! and knocks and bumps can quite literally kill them.

Note that if you hear a drive clicking or pinging this could be the worst thing you would hear.

Printer is on but not responding to the computer. Message says make sure your printer is turned on

Hope this is of use.
1) Does the printer show under printers if not its not installed. Intall using the software CD that might have come with it. If it is installed de-install it and re-install after checking points 2-4 below. 2) Is the printer connected directly to the PC or through an external hub ? assumming its using a USB connection. If through a hub disconnect it and connect directly and try again. If already connected directly use a different port. 3) Try a test print. If it works the problem may lay with the application you are running if it doesn't then make sure all connections are secure. If all appears to be OK change the cable connecting the printer to the PC. 4) Are you using a Parallel cable of the ribbon type if you are change it for non ribbon type. Ribbon cables are not good yhey tend to break.
Lastly have you had a successful print or is this the first attempt. If First attempt and all connections are secure then re-install the printer software.

Kodak AIO Easyshare 5300 scanning problem

Could be USB connection if you have another cable try it. Try connecting to different USB ports on your PC. If you have a Powerd USB hub lying around try connecting the printer to the PC through that.

Also try disconnecting all USB devices including the printer. Reboot your PC. Connect only the printer and try and scan.

Some times multiple USB devices dont work when they are both connected to the same PC.

Hope this helps!
