If you don't have a back up of the NIC driver a possible solution is to use another pc/laptop that has a working broadband connection in order to download the correct driver from the manufacturer's website and then transfer the driver executable or zip file via USB drive or CD-R back to your desktop pc. Did your desktop come with a manufacturer restore disc as sometimes you can update the driver from the device manager in the control panel by right clicking on the network adaptor and selecting the update driver software option and point it to search the manufacturers disc including all sub directories. Good luck.

your dell needs a network adapter card or wireless card installed is that the case(look in b ack)

if no wireless, then it needs an ethernet cable plugged into modem/router from cin bell and then in back of dell

How do i undo a mater reset on my cell phone

You can't reverse a master reset. Once it's reset to factory that's it.

Master resets wipe the phone back to clean factory settings. Once wiped. It's done.

Is your machine comming on at all? You may have just wiped out the icons on your Desk Top.

If you can click on start, click on run, type desk top into the open space and ok it. your icons should be shown. you will have to copy and paste each one back to your desk top, or select edit and then select select all, then click on file, select send to, and select desk top as short cut.

My desk top computer in the house is on-line, the laptop is not. Message says it cannot find any wireless networks - I tried everything listed except turning the broadband connection off - as that must...

Well, actually... it might help to turn the router off and then on again. Sometimes power-cycling the router can reset it, which might need to be done. I'm a big fan of the power-cycle; it works for all sorts of obscure problems.

Once the router is on again, use the laptop and adapter to check for wireless networks. If you still can't find a network, disconnect the ethernet cable from the back of the desktop computer, and try the wireless adapter with the desktop PC. If it works, the problem is with the laptop (possibly a power supply problem). If it doesn't work, the problem is either the adapter or the router.

Ideally you should then try your adapter with a friend's router. Eventually you will discover whether the router is playing up or whether the adapter is faulty.

In my (admittedly still limited) experience, connection problems are rarely about faulty equipment and more usually about incorrect settings, so it might also be worth running the New Connection Wizard from Network Connections in the Control Panel.

Good luck!

For the 2nd laptop, first upgrade the LAN card driver, then reinstall the driver if the problem is not resolved with the driver upgrade.

Hope this helps.

Can't setup to virgin braodband

You mean ascii and hexadecimal.
  • Hard wire your router to your PC with an ethernet cable
  • Open your web browser, go to website http://192.168.0.1
  • Input username/password both are "admin" (without the quotes)
  • choose "wireless settings" (third tab from left)
  • go to "security" (fourth tab from left)
  • Choose WEP (if the first box on this page already says WEP you may skip this step)
  • choose 64-bit
  • type random 10 digit code into key 1 (eg. 38-38-2D-E3-B0)
  • Save settings (bottom of page)
  • write code down somewhere or make it easy to remember
  • disconnect your ethernet cable from router, try to connect to wireless network, enter code (from above) and it will connect.

I have just signed up to bt braodband and got a bt home hub. As a result I have a spare BT voyager 54g wireless network modem. Can I use this to print wirelessly to my lexmark printer

You can't use wireless adapter to hook printer to wireless network. You need a wireless print server. Example is Linksys or DLink Wireless-G PrintServer.

Setting up router having problems

Hi,

You don't need to have a WiFi adapter for the desktop. It can be connected using a LAN cable from the PC's Ethernet port to one of the routers Ethernet port. AS long as the desktop is set to "Auto obtain IP add" then it should work straight out.

If the LinkSys WRT54G did not came with a setup CD/Wizard, then you would need to reset it since I can only assume that it has been tried/used elsewhere before and the settings/configuration may not match your ISP and/or your network configuration. Reset involves pressing a small recessed button at the rear of the unit for about 10 seconds or more.

Once the reset was done and your router can connect to your ISP and therefore your desktop to the Internet, the laptop would also follow suit as long as the network settings is likewise set to Auto obtain.....

To verify if you can connect to the router, on your desktop, open a browser and log on to your router using 192.168.1.1,

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
