Question about Toshiba Satellite A665-S6086 Laptop

1 Answer

Toshiba Satellite Laptop A665-S6086 came with 4GB of 2x2GB DDR3. Upgraded today to 8GB of 2x4GB DDR3 and went to turn it on, but the lights are on it beeps and then shuts off. Took out battery and AC for a bit and then tried again with same results. Won't stay on and won't display boot sequence. Put back original RAM and same issue. What could have happened and how is this resolved? I am sure the RAM was seated properly as no gold is displayed and there was a click and then are solidly being held.

There is a chance that you ESD and ruined the motherboard. Take all the RAM out and try to boot it and see. Then put one in and boot and then the other. This checks the memory. See if you can get to CMOS setup screen in the bios.

SOURCE: Toshiba satellite a105 s4004 cannot boot

if the recovery disk would not run to load the program than your hard drive is probably bad have you been into the machine and seen the hard drive have a look at the front where the wires plug in and there is a slot for jumpers to select the hard drive function make sure its set for master only. most hhard drives will not have a jumper for master setting if there is a jumper make sure its set right .

SOURCE: Toshiba Satellite Laptop Power Failure (A105-S1013 System Unit)

Okay, lets troubleshoot this:
1)Does your laptop run on battery alone ?
yes )test your jacks continuity to the motherboard using a continuity tester or Digital Multimeter.
a)test between the center contact and the motherboard.
b)test between the outside metal cover of the jack ,and the motherboard.
c)If either of these fails continuity, replace the jack.
2)does your laptop now power up on AC ?
yes)Stop
No)Try the BIOS upgrade.

try looking at the DC input. My brother's 1st laptop had that same problem. All we need to do is solder it. Remember-1st dc connection, not the one on the MB.

3 beeps usually means that either the chipset or the processor is dead. Nothing you can do, take it to a repair shop.

SOURCE: Laptop Toshiba Satellite A200 Model No. PSAF6A-02C01N fail boot

Try removing / swapping / reseating the memory.

Try booting with one stick only, if the top slot doesn't work, try booting the bottom slot. Try both sticks.

Let me know what happens.

Maximum RAM supported by this system is 2x4GB PC3-10600 200 pin, DDR3 SO-DIMMs modules.

2x2GB is standard factory RAM. Call back the seller and get a replacement(2x4GB).
