Canon MP530 refuses to print magenta. Have cleaned contacts on cartridge and receiving socket contact point and inserted NEW cartridge with no effect..Wasted much ink deep cleaning.
    What next?

  • Walter Nelson Apr 08, 2011

No one seems to have read my question..I have told you repeatedly that I have deep cleaned it many times and even used a new ink cartridge. Shut off power to printer removed all cartridges-waited 5 minutes-reinstalled cartridges deep cleaned and have nearly used up most of the remaining ink byt deep-cleaning. Still no magenta.

ezrahite-did you read my comments--of course i cleaned-deep cleaning- several times-changed to new cartridge--are you sure you read my comments?

  • Walter Nelson Apr 08, 2011

I do not think there are any experts present on line..If there are any they have not read my comments or are not capable of reading it.
    I am disappointed in FIXYA.

Welcome to Fixya

Sounds like the printhead is already clogged up due to numerous times of deep cleaning using the software. Try to clean the heads manually. Please see procedure below:

1. Remove the cartridge. For models where the print head is in the printer, drop seven to 10 drops of isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) down the ink receptacle area. This is the hole where the ink flows into the head from the cartridge. Run a few self-cleaning utilities. If necessary, allow to sit a few hours or overnight and repeat the self-cleaning utility.

2. Soak the cartridge print head in hot water if the print head is in the cartridge. Allow to soak overnight. Dry the print head area with a paper towel. Repeat the self-cleaning utility.

3. Place the cartridge print head in isopropyl alcohol if the hot water soak did not unclog the print head. Leave the print head covered in alcohol overnight. Use a damp paper towel to wipe off the print head area. Dry carefully. Try the self-cleaning utility again.

4. Purchase a new cartridge if the alcohol soak did not unclog the print head in the cartridge. This will provide new print heads that won't be clogged. Contact a service technician for repair of print heads in the printer if the alcohol did not unclog the print head.

Thank you for using Fixya!

Hi - if you already clean everything it and nothing happens then it only means that this is a problem with the hardware. The solution that has been provided was from canon support itself

Hi - Ofcouse i have read the comments the reason why i provided you the link is that if incase you missed something. Anyway like what ive said if all other fails then most likely this is a problem with the hardware. If you still have warranty with canon it would be better so that they can fix the machine free of charge. Thanks

Hi

Take out the magenta cartridge and using a dry clean cloth wipe the copper connections on the back of the cartridge, inspect where the cartridge is put to make sure they are also clean and ndamaged.Reinsert the cartridge and allow the printer to recognize it and do a test print it doesn't have to be a big picture just enough to see if the ink is working, if it still won't print then the cartridge is most likely faulty take it back to where you bought it and ask for a new cartridge.
Unplug the power. Take all cartridges out and wait five minutes. Reconnect machine to power. Wait until machine demands carts. Reinsert cart as demanded.
Machine should run a short cleaning cycle.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.

The ink may have settled and may be somewhat dry - shake the cartridge vigorously to loosen the ink and apply denatured alcohol to the print head nozzles on the cartridge - apply a generous amount and let it soak for a few minutes.

The magenta won't work. i put a new cartridge, cleaned headers, test printed. all the other colors work find but, NO magenta comes out.

This sounds like you are using an aftermarket or refilled ink cartridge. If this is the case, try putting in a new OEM magenta ink cartridge and running the deep cleaning utility 3 times. This usually clears a clogged nozzle caused by non-OEM loaded inks.
Let me know if this clears the problem. Thanks.

PRINTER (not web camera!) HP Deskjet 712c Printer began printing mostly blackPrinter began printing mostly black & magenta so I replaced the color cartridge. Color did not improve and then black...

First run the CLEAN HEADS and see if that helps. If you don't use your printer at least once a week the Print Heads get dried out and will not allow the ink to pass through to the paper.
Go to control Panel and click on Printess. Then when the window comes up, CLICK on Properties TAB and then in the next window, CLICK on CLEANING.
You may have to replace your PRINT HEAD if that doesn't work.
Hope this is of some help. Bud

HP Photosmart 3210xi - some colors (magentas) will not print

Remove the magenta cartridge, and try cleaning the head with alcohol, maybe with a small paint brush or an acid brush. It sounds like ink has dried and plugged up that head.

MAGENTA NOT PRINTING

The other week I had the black print head clog up, requiring daily nozzle deep cleaning [a normal 'ocassional' maintenance function]. Thought I needed a new Print head, so anything worth a try.
I loaded up an old black cartridge [I load all my own......always have] with Isopropyl Alcohol and ran deep clean on that cartridge a couple of times, then repeat printed [6 times] a page full of the number 8 in about half inch character size, to get the alcohol through the nozzles. then Deep cleaned again 3 times, to wash it through the print head.

I reloaded the normal ink filled cartridge and ran the '8' page again till I got good black output. It has now been working without problem, daily, for over a week. Clearly if it's a Magenta only problem, the cleaning as described above would be a bit different, as the magenta is one of 4 colour cartridges.
My printer does quite a lot of work, and was bought at least a couple of years ago, being used daily for alpha numeric and photo printing work. This was the first difficulty I experienced with it.
Hope the above might help.Ken

7310 won't print magenta

Either you are out of magenta ink or your cartridge is dirty. Just because you've run a cleaning job doesn't mean the printer will fix the problem. The best thing to do is take your cartridge out and use a paper towel to gently clean the head (where the ink comes out). Once you wipe away the gunk you should still get the three colors on each pass of the paper towel over the head. If you only get two colors (yellow and cyan) then your magenta is empty or dried out (happens with ink cartridges used past their expiration date). The only thing you can do then is get a new in cartridge.

My magenta will not print well

Here's what you should do. Remove all ink cartridges. Get some rubbing alcohol, preferrably 91% proof (leaves less moisture) Get a couple normal paper towels. Check each cartridge for dried ink and remove it using an alcohol wetted paper towel. (The deep cleaning procedures aren't always effective.) The gold contacts on each cartridge should be gold when you are done. Use the same procedure on the gold contacts of the ink cartridge housing inside the printer. Take your time, do it well. If that does not fix the problem, then do the following. Switch the black and magenta cartridge. Some printers won't print when you do this, other printers don't know the difference. If your printer is the later, then attempt a print job using a page that has a line of both black and magenta text. If you see a black print, then the problem is your magenta cartridge (despite having installed a new one) If the magenta prints, then you know the magenta cartridge is good. If the magenta prints but the black doesn't, then you have a printer failure. Let me know your results. ZT3000 Beta tester of "0"s and "1's"
