Our Nortel T7216E phone voice mail feature stopped working. When we try to access it says Inactive Feature. Can you help?

Hi i tried having the live chat but it wouldnt let me the problem you are having is a software problem this needs reseting and the software reinstalling this isnt something you can do yourself but can only be done at repair shop it wont cost to much but this is the only way you can fix this problem ok let me know if you need further assistance ok

Dear customer..here is the solution

Sometimes when you put a new (or alternate) voicemail system on a Norstar switch, The feature codes that accessed the old system stay in the KSU memory. If this is the case all of your feature codes will appear inactive even if the voicemail system is operating correctly.
To fix this issue you need to run an External Feature test (XFtest) to identify and remove the leftover codes from your KSU memory. You must have a programming set to access this menu (M7310, M7324, T7316).
Power down the Voicemail unit. Remove connection to voicemail ports from KSU.
1. Press [Feature] **938378 (XFtest). The password will be 266344 (Config).
2. Your display will read Feat code: and you will have options First and Exit.
3. Press First. The first stored feature code will appear, and you will have options Test, Back, and Next.
4. Press Test. Your options will read Remove and OK. Press Remove.
5. Once the feature code is removed, press Next to go to the next code.
6. Do this with all codes until your display reads None Registered
7. Release
Restore connections to the voicemail ports from the KSU. Power the system back up.
The feature codes will be restored to the correct defaults with the completion of the voicemail power-up cycle.

Is the phone system working but the voicemail did not come back up ? Can you tell me what kind of voicemail you have, ist should be marked on the voicemail system ?

These Keys may be set as line keys instead of feature access or not tagged as "feature access" in the programming, also you can only have so many feature access keys... 8 comes to mind but I could be wrong, some features can be programmed permanently onto a button in the main programming so you can free up some more feature access (user programable) buttons.

Locked out of Nortel t7316 every time you press feature and #983 or 985 it displays inactive feature.

F983 and F985 are voice mail access feature codes. Try rebooting your voice mail system to see if the unit recovers. There is no switch so you will need to unplug the power to the VMS to reboot.

Unable to access voicemail feature inactive

This means the system can no longer communicate with the voice mail. You can try to locate the voice mail and power cycle the unit to resolve the issue, If you still get inactive feature after the reboot you will need to replace the vms.

I have a Nortel Norstar phone and all the features seem to have stopped working. I can't access the voice mail or the get the general delivery mail box to turn on? Help!

Check to verify that the features are still programmed on the buttons. You can do this with Feature *0 and pressing the buttons. Try to manually do a feature button. Feature 86 will provide background music and Feature #86 will turn it off. Feature 85 will put your phone in DND and Feature #85 will restore it.

The other thing you might try is to unplug your phone and plug it in letting it set up several time to reset the port.

Also try swapping the phone with another extension to see if it is the port or the phone. Does the trouble move with the phone or stay in the same place. It is the phone if it moves with it or the port if it remains in the same place.

Admin nortel i can't access the adminstrative programming. i enter feature 983 and it says "inactive feature". how can i fix it to where i can set up a new mailbox?

If you are getting inactive feature when entering feature 983 the phone system and voice mail unit are not communicating. This usually requires a power reset to clear. Or the voice mail unit is in trouble and a vendor needs to be called.

How can I activate feature 981

Press FEATURE (above the HOLD key on old sets or the Nortel Symbol on the new sets)
Then press 981 on the dial pad.

If states "Inactive when done then your voice mail system is down or the feature code was changed, either way if you do have voice mail then call your tech in to check the system right away.

NorStar (NTAB2666) Audio Conference - this is a conference unit.

You issues is with voice mail though.
Call a tech in since your system is down.

Call in a pro, sounds like the voicemail either took a ****, or just needs rebooting.
