This is more likely a function of the folder view settings. Here's how to fix it.

Right-click the folder for which you want to enable the Thumbnail view, and then click Properties.
Click to select the Enable Thumbnail View check box, and then click OK.

To view the contents of a folder by using the Thumbnail view, open the folder for which the Thumbnail view is enabled, and then click Thumbnails on the View menu. The image files in the folder are displayed as miniature versions of the actual images in the right pane.

That's what the second part of my answer pertained to...once thumbnail view is enabled for the folder, you have to go into the folder and click the view menu, and choose thumbnails.

Ok, I kept trying to post the registry fix but this forum keeps telling me there's an invalid character in it, so I found a link that has the same information, but what they are doing is disabling the acrobat thumbnails. Fortunately, they also have a REVERSAL (to re-enable adobe thumbnails) which is what you will want to do.

You have to be in the folder when you do these procedures.
Once you are inside the folder, click VIEW, then THUMBNAILS.
If that's not working, and the registry fix I sent didn't help, then something is seriously wrong with the registry, and you will likely need to uninstall and reinstall Adobe Acrobat Reader.

I don't see any issues with that configuration, which is why I specified reinstalling the reader and not acrobat itself.

3c. NOTE: This time, there will be a small rectangular box in the same large white box that has the small thumbnails of the page of your document that you have scanned. The small box will be labeled "Scan Complete." There will be a note that says, "Scan complete, to continue scanning load the next document and click "SCAN." There are two choices only. "Scan" and "Exit."

4. Repeat step 3 - 3c clicking on the "Scan" button in the Scan Complete box for each page of the document. When the last page is scanned and the thumbnail is in the white box with the rest of the multi-page document, click on the "Exit" button.

5. Use the Ctrl button and choose each of the thumbnails representing the pages of the document you want to save as one file. Be sure they have a yellow frame highlighting each thumbnail, as well as have a small check in the little box at the bottom left of each thumbnail.

How to clear the thumbnail cache in Windows Vista Clearing the thumbnail...

How to clear the thumbnail cache in Windows Vista pdf_button.png printbutton.png Clearing the thumbnail cache:
Windows keeps a copy of all of your picture, video, and document thumbnails so they can be displayed quickly when you open a folder. If you delete the thumbnail cache, they will be automatically created when needed. The thumbnail preview problems can be resolved by clearing the thumbnail database and let the system rebuild it as and when required.
To do so, use these steps:
Click Start, type cleanmgr and press ENTER

Click My files only

Select the system drive letter from the drop-down list

Uncheck all the entries except Thumbnails

Click OK

The thumbnail database is stored globally in Windows Vista, unlike Windows XP, where the thumbnail database is stored on a per-folder basis. In Windows Vista, the default Thumbnail cache location is mentioned below:
%LocalAppData%MicrosoftWindowsExplorer

File and folder names are not visible in one drive of my pc

For Windows XP:

Open the problematic folder, Press and hold SHIFT key, right-click in empty area and select "View -> Thumbnails". It'll toggle the file/folder names.

Actually its a feature to show/hide file names while in Thumbnails mode.

For Windows Vista and 7:

Open the problematic folder, right-click in empty area and de-select "View -> Hide File names". If the option is not available, then press and hold SHIFT key, right-click in empty area and select "View -> Medium Icons".

I have an HP Officejet 6500. I want to scan a document to a PDF, then upload it to a website. How do I do it? I scanned the document, but now I can't find the PDF.

(1.) Start / All Programs / HP / HP Viewer / Scan Document (icon is in left margin)
(2.) A small screen appears entitled "Select Source", and provides the "HP Officejet 6200 Series TWAIN" option. Highlight this then click "select".
(3.) I accept the default provided on the next screen (i.e., radio buttons for "Document" & "Scan for editable text"; "Scan to:" (drop box) "HP Document Viewer; check "Show Preview" box; then click "Scan".
(4.) After a brief pause, my printer scans, then the HP Document Viewer screen on the PC provides a small image of the scanned document and allows me to click the "accept" icon.
(5.) After "accepting" the scan into the HP Document Viewer, it takes a minute for it to appear in the "viewer". Notice that the "View Thumbnails" tab is highlighted at the top of this screen. Click the check-box next to the scanned item then click the "View Page" tab just to the right of the "View Thumbnails" tab.
(6.) The new screen should show a larger version of your scanned document. Now notice the "Save As" icon in the upper left corner. Click that, then "yes" to warning default screen, then select a file name and location to save it into.
(7.) Before clicking save, click the drop box next to the "Save as type:" and select one of the pdf options. Mine offers: "PDF 1-bit", PDF 8-bit Grayscale", and "PDF 24-bit Color" options. Choose one of them then click "save".
(8.) You should then be able to find the scanned pdf file in the directory you selected to save it under.

Note that you may need all of the HP printer utilities and tool software installed for this to work. If you don't, you may need to uninstall/reinstall the printer software.

Check the box that says "Do not cache thumbnails"
Click ok.

I hope that fixes it.
