Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Have a LCD TV Insignia m/n NS-L3220 -10A. Unit sometimes does not turn on. After turning on, if the red on light turns to the blue on light, it always comes on. If it stays on red it does not turn on. If TV is on Ch 7 only it sometimes comes on with extreme background noise in audio. Switch from Ch 7 to 6 and back to 7, the background noise is gone. All other channels Ok. Customer has said he has turned on the TV and it didn't come on, left the room for 10 mins with TV still switched on - when he comes back the TV is on. Hope you can help. Thanks. Dale Lambert D & D Electronics

No physical problems on power supply. All filters look O.K. Changed main capacitor 100 MFD, 450 volts on spec. After running TV for 2 weeks system has changed a little. Now a red light is always on when TV is plugged in. It changes to blue when turned on at set or remote but TV does not turn on and remote or power button will not switch blue light off. Must unplug TV for 2-5 mins. when blue light is on then TV can be turned on everytime. Have you got any suggestions. Thanks. Dale

With all of these different problems I would start with looking for swollen caps on the power supply. If they look good and test good with an ESR and all voltages are good coming from the power supply, then it would have to be a main board problem.

when the set is plugged in but not turned on, the LED is supposed to be red. This letting you know that the TV is in stand by. The LED will turn blue when power is turned on. Since you can turn the set on, but then it freezes up, I would suggest a main board replacement if you are sure that the caps are good on the power supply.

The screen on my Insignia LCD TV isn't turning on. The red light is lite, so power is getting to it, but the screen is black. Cable guy said it was an esay do-at-home fix. Can you help?

It sounds more like a bad power supply, not enough juice to turn on the screen, I've seen this problem come up in just about every LCD TV out there, very common. Some TV's make a clicking noise while other just don't turn on, I am almost sure it's a bad power supply that just went bad and can't power up the screen at all. Not an easy fix even though you were told It was an easy do it at home fix. Unless you are good at taking apart stuff, you can open the back of the TV and eye ball the power supply unit for a bad blown capacitor or another component that is burned up or melted? Some times you can actually smell a burnt component and sometimes you can't.

How to remove the back from Insignia NS-32LCD?

I unscrewed all the screws in the back, detached the tv from the base, and was able to get the back off. I ordered a new power supply board and will install it to see if it fixes the problem with the tv (won't turn on, insignia light alternates between red and blue). I didn't notice any problems with "swollen" capacitors, so if the new power board fixes the problem I'll update this website.
