I cannot download library e-books - when I get adobe up and ready to receive the downloaded book, it says it cannot open the book. I have used the library EPUB books for a couple of years with no problems....

This is likely a problem with Adobe Digital Edition authorization. The Digital Rights Management (DRM) feature once employed to protect publications from copyright violations is sometimes perplexing to deal with. The link below follows someone attempting to correct the situation. The advice there in seems to involves deleting authorization and reauthorizing procedures which you have to "get just right" or the process fails. People using Overdrive encounter this problem sometimes. I encourage you to work your way through the discussion to glean the details of what works and what does not. (Note you do have to have an Adobe ID in the course of this.)

Ebook will not download from computer to Sony PRS350. It is a new computer and message comes up that cannot download because reader registered to someone else. But it is mine and always has been and worked...

Adobe in particular appears to offer during setup of its reader the choice to have its downloaded ebooks readable only on the specific device or as another choice have the downloaded ebooks transferable to your other devices. This is related to having an Adobe ID. Your books do not currently transfer because of this initial choice. There is also the matter of other restrictions offered in the library accessing application, Overdrive. And if you are trying to transfer books between Kindle and Amazon, you have to be using the same Amazon account you use in managing your devices.

Use Manage Your Content and Devices to Deliver Books

Sometimes clearing your authorization can fix transfer or download trouble as well.

It may not be possible to go back and make the books previously downloaded accessible to all devices. But if you change your authorizations, you should be able to share future books between devices.

I need a step to step guide on how to download a book to my iriver

  • In order to read ePub formatted eBooks on an iRiver Story, you can either SYNC the device with your Borders app or use Adobe Digital Editions. Simply connect your device, select 'Disk Mode' and then click on the 'SYNC' button in the lower-left corner of the Borders app.
  • If you have purchased PDF files, you will need to use Adobe Digital Editions to download and manage these files. Please ensure you have an Adobe ID entered in to Adobe Digital Editions prior to downloading the files fro your Borders eLibrary. You can obtain an Adobe ID here:

  1. Sign-in to your account on the website using your email address and password. You will see the option at the top of the screen.
  2. Once you have signed-in, please click on 'My E-Library', which is also at the top of the screen.
  3. You will now be able to view your eBook library. On the right of each title in your library, below 'Open eBook' you will see a link 'Download Now (For Adobe Digital Editions users)'. Click on the 'Download Now' text for each book to download it, which will not cost you any further money.
  4. The downloaded file may ask you if you wish to open it with Adobe Digital Editions or save it to your file system.
  5. Please click on 'OPEN'.
  6. The eBook should now appear in your library in the program.

If you experience any problems downloading the eBook in to Adobe Digital Editions, you may need to save the file and then right-click on it and select 'Open With' and then manually select Adobe Digital Editions on the first occasion.

When you connect your iRiver device to the computer, Adobe Digital Editions will ask if you wish to authorise the device. This process is assigning your Adobe ID to the iRiver Story, which will allow you to transfer across your eBooks and then open them on the iRiver Story. Please click on 'authorise device' and then drag-and-drop your eBooks to the device by holding down the left mouse button and releasing it when on the iRiver Story, which will appear as the last item on the list in the left column as 'STORY'.

Ereader seems frozen says protected by drm can not read any books i downloaded

Where did you download the books from? If from your public library, then you need to go to Adobe Digital Editions and register your computer and ereader (with the same id). If you bought the books from the Sony Book Store, then I don't know what the issue is.

Your library should have information on what you need to do.

I just received my new nextbook on 12/22/10. I am really excited that it has an ereader with books through Borders however, when I registered with but am unable to logon to Borders EBook Store with ADOBE...

You'll need a account to purchase eBooks, because the only way to keep the eBooks you buy in your online library is through your account. The library belongs to you-you can access it at any time.
