My Nextbook 11a keeps shutting itself down Message is THERMAL SHUTDOWN COULD YOU PLEASE HELP ME CORRECT THIS ISSUE IF POSSIBLE THANK YOU Cheryl Dodson

A thermal shutdown occurs when a computer case or central processing unit temperature reaches a critical level at which point the computer will automatically shut down to avoid permanent damage. There are a variety of factors that can cause your computer to overheat and a range of external and internal problem origins; in some situations, you may not be able to fix the problem and will need to simply adjust your use patterns. Fixing a thermal shutdown may take hours and may require the replacement of potentially expensive computer components.
Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can use to help you.
Step 1
Leave your computer off for a few minutes after a thermal shutdown. You may be tempted to turn it back on and see what the problem is, but this is dangerous for its internal components. They need 10 to 15 minutes to cool down, depending on room temperature. If the room is hot (80 degrees Fahrenheit or more), you should wait until the room has cooled down or move the computer to a cooler location. Do not put the computer in a refrigerated location; the sudden drop in temperature may warp and crack its internal parts.
Step 2
Detach the computer's power cable and open side door of its case. This may require a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver. With your small flashlight, visually inspect the inside of the case for physical damage -- things that look burned. Smell the inside of case for the odor of melted plastic. If you detect this, something has probably been damaged beyond repair and the computer needs to be sent to a technician. If this odor is present, close the case; plastic fumes are toxic.
Step 3
If there is a lot of dust in the case or around the vents, clean it out. Dust acts as an insulator and can contribute to overheating. Remove the dust using short bursts from a can of compressed air. Hold the can vertically, perpendicular to the floor, when spraying. If the can is angled, it may spray frozen gas.
Step 4
If the inside of the case appears undamaged and clean, reattach the power cable, but do not close the case door.
Step 5
Do a quick check for mechanical failure. Turn your computer on for about 10 seconds and observe its system fans, CPU fan and video card fan (if present). All of these fans should be spinning. Put your hand outside the case and behind the power supply unit. You should feel warm air coming out of the grill behind the PSU. If the PSU fan is not working, the PSU needs to be replaced or its fan needs to be replaced by a trained technician. If the other fans are not spinning, check their connectors for damage or looseness.

Solution: Use the Literati USB connection and the following steps
1. Plug the eReader into a charger
2. Download v2.0 of the Literati or Lookbook firmware from - http://download.kobobooks.com/firmwares/merchsource/2-0/KoboRoot.tgz , and save the file somewhere you will remember

3. Keeping the charger connected, connect the Literati or Lookbook to your computer through the provided USB cable
4. The eReader will appear on your computer as a mass storage device
ON A MAC:

1. Open mass storage device in Finder

2 . Click GO from the top menu

3. Click Go to folder

4. Type in .kobo (include the period).

How to reset password on Sony Ereader. Daughter set it and forgot it. Unable to use. Thanks in advance, Tim

This is the only way if you can't remember the password.
Here's the procedure for resetting the device back to factory default:
Note: Performing this procedure will delete any content you have stored on the Reader.

1). With the reader off, using a paper clip or similar device, press in and hold the Reset button on the back of the unit for 5 - 10 seconds.
2). Release the reset button and power on the reader.
3). While the reader is booting, press and hold both the Volume Up and Mark Buttons. Continue holding until you see a screen asking you to confirm that you want to reset the device back to factory default (Press Button 5). Note: I had to hold down these buttons for about 60 seconds to get the confirmation screen. Also about half way through this process, you should see a blue light flash momentarily around the lower left Page button.
4). After you have confirmed you want to set the device back to factory default, the reader will turn off. Turn the unit back on and it will go through its initial start up which takes a minute or two.
Hope this helps, Thanks for using FixYa

The dv6775us Entertainment laptop was working. About 5 minutes after a shutdown, it wouldn't turn on. The light at the external power port and the charge indicator light in the front left corner come on...

Hello, If it a hard shutdown that you experienced, then, i should beleive that it is from the board. what i mean is that you have to change the processor of your laptop, then it will come back alive. But if it does not come back, you should know that the board has to be changed enterly.

"Improper Shutdown" - Printer keeps turning on and off.

Got the same problem following a message "Printer ink failure" code 0xc19a0035. Instructions say to shut down using button on/off. But printer refused to shutdown. After 30 minutes, I disconnected power cable. Removed cartridges. Reloaded cartridges. Reconnected power cable and got "Improper shutdown" message with continuous cycle. Solution: 1. While the printer is still turned on, unplug all cables and cords at the back of the printer.
2. Unplug the power cord also from the wall outlet...
3. Wait for two minutes.
4. Reconnect power cord to the wall outlet first.
5. Press and hold the pound (#) and six (6) buttons.
6. While holding down the two buttons, reconnect the power cord to the back of the printer and after two seconds, release pound and six buttons.
7. Turn on the printer if it turns off... and it's fixed.
8. Be patient to let printer run its tests.

Laptop Shutdown Issues

1) For sounds, you can check the sound properties and see if the balance is set right for the left and the right speaker. Alternately, move the balance to the left and see if you hear anything 2) There can be lots of reasons why the laptop would shutdown automatically. Does it shutdown or would just turn off without a proper shutdown. It can be due to some device - especially the processor getting heated or some device is not getting enough power for the system to remain up. Please revert back with further observations.
