No water hammers installed above the water heater. You can buy these hammers but they are not fun to put on yourself

I recently bought a fisher and paykel front loader washing machine and since it was installed it has created loud banging noises in my water pipes. Do you have any idea how I could fix this?

If you're willing to do plumbing work yourself, these and more will show you what to do.

Otherwise, a plumber will be needed to bring an end to the water hammer you are experiencing by installing an air dampener as shown below - kind of like a shock absorber on your car but in this case, the backlash of pressure is softened or eliminated by it or something similar.

Basically what's happening is the water valves are shutting off the water flow so fast, the water flow ends up vibrating the pipes and they bang against what they are next to.

Odds are you were experiencing it before but it wasn't bad enough to be noticed - I installed a set at my water heater and another set right before the water connections for the washer.

How does one eliminate an annoying, loud noise that comes from the faucet shown below. We replaced the cylinder to no avail.

A disturbed water flow causes such sounds. Since the sound propagates through the entire plumbing? The problem may be hard to pinpoint but is generally located at a valve or an endpoint.
Check that all valves are opened completely
Try removing one of the faucets and letting the water flow freely
If you can not repair - descaling or replacement.

Baxi banging noise

noise in water pipes is called water hammer and is when the water flow pulsates from an inconsistent flow. Water has mass and when stopped suddenly there is a pressure build up which moves any loose pipes. It can be fixed by putting more securing or mounting saddles on the pipe to hold it steady or you can get a pressure accumulator and it takes up the pressure build up and stops the noise. It is most prevalent when sudden stop taps are used such as ceramic taps or stop cocks and less so when you have to screw down the tap to shut off the water.

Noisy water pipes when neighbours use water

Install air chamber to cushion sudden-stop of flowing water.
Water flow coming to sudden stop is called water hammer, and will bang pipes, but also loosen plumbing joints, causing leaks.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-electric-problems-with-water-heater.html#bang
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/Flow-rates-water-hammer-600.jpg

Air chamber has to be vertical, and about 18" long, with cap on top.
By code each Hot and Cold line at each tap will have air chamber located behind the wall. So there are two air chambers at each tap.

In your case, you can probably add air chamber to your Hot and Cold lines and solve problem for both dwellings.

Water hammer is caused because water does not compress like air.
So when long column of water suddenly stops... the whole pipe-full of water comes to sudden halt... and that water could weigh 1-1/2 pounds ... and just like a hammer head moving, the weight of water bangs the pipes to dissipate energy, causing noise.

You can use a water hammer arrestor and hook it up to old washing machine hot valve by use of a standard washer hose. This type of aresstor is basically. a shock absorber. You will needtonget pipe adapters to go from hose thread to pipe thread. If you can mount the hammer arressror higher then the washer valve. Hook everything up and turn old hot water valve back on. This shoulg take care of your problem. Thank you.

Bad water supply to hot tap and a banging noise when you turn the tap off

No charge for this one.
Educated guess but are you in an area where you have water scale. That is a lime build up especially in hot water appliances as the scale forms on hot surfaces. This would reduce the flow of water through to the hot taps and cause what we call kettling which accounts for the noise. Maybe give a local plumber a ring and ask about scale in your area. Other than that not too much info from you to suggest anything else. Please get make and model of hot water system and re-post problem.

I HAVE A 50 GALLON 5YR OLD RICHMOND HOT WATER TANK SOMETIMES YOU TURN ON HOT WATER AND IT RUNS FINE.THEN ALLOF A SUDDEN THE WATER STOPS AND PIPES BANG.WE HAVE 44PSI COMING IN FROM CITY

What you're describing is "water hammer". This problem, left unchecked, can cause big problems for your home's plumbing. Water hammer is result of quickly shutting off the flow of water in your home. The faster the rate of water flowing when it is rapidly shut off can result in very loud banging. The banging is caused by the pipes shaking in the walls, ceilings and any place they aren't secured. This repeated shaking causes soldered and glued joints to weaken and eventually fail. The most common sources for water hammer are toilets and wash machines, but even quickly shutting off a faucet can cause it too.

An short article about water hammer is here. Below is a link to images of products designed to arrest water hammer and associated noise.

We seem to have developed a problem with our boiler, worcester 20/25 heatsave. Every time we turn on a hot water tap, when we turn the tap off, there apears to be a loud noise from the boiler or pipes for...

it seams the valve that senses water flow is not operating properly, causing the boiler to keep heating the water when it has nowhere to go,i,e the taps turned off, thus boiling the water.

Trouble to have hot water continiusly

hi there well it seems from what you have written you must of stopped the hot water at some point to remove the valve components & to replace them, from the small amount of info you have given I suspect its an air lock in the hot water supply pipe somewhere?

If this is the problem you might find its affecting the other hot taps possibly? if your able to narrow it down to a single appliance, then it could be localised.

Now the air lock can be removed if it s as we suggested. Do you have a wet & dry vacuum if so run the tap closest on the hot then put the wet vac around the tap & turn it on for a few secs being careful not to get scalding water on you? this will hopefully move the airlock & get you back in business?
If not then post some more info & I will see what i can do for you....good luck

Kindly

Richie

Maytag Neptune model # mah6500aww: makes banging noise and causes machine to move

A loud banging sound in the pipes is usually caused by a water hammer effect. Water hammer sounds are caused by a valve closing in the system, and yet the water in the pipe is still flowing because of its kinetic energy. The banging happens as the water hits the valve that prevents it from going any further. If the kinetic energy is great enough, it can actually cause a pipe to burst or explode at the end. If a valve is closed near the beginning or in the middle of a system, the water keeps flowing after that point, and it can actually create a vacuum. This vacuum can cause a pipe to implode if the stress is too great. Roaring type noises may be coming from a spin bearing. This bearing probably had the grease washed from it because of a tub seal leak.
Squeaking sounds in a new washer are usually caused by the new parts getting broken in, and will usually go away after several washes.
The sounds of water gurgling, slurping, or sloshing during a spin cycle are usually caused by the drain pump pushing the water out of the washer tub.
Too much water pressure can cause a whistling or squealing sound. Adjust the hot and cold intake water valves to relieve this sound.
Metallic clinking sounds during spin or agitation may be the result of drive train components meshing during speed changes or after a pause.
Swishing or swooshing type of sounds may be caused by water and suds trapped between the tub and basket during a spin cycle, and will usually clear up as the water is drained from the washer
