Question about Homelite Garden

Open Question

I bought a slightly use Homelight gas blower ( backpacker 2 ? ut 08572) . I cranks for a split second on ether but not without it and won,t stay cranked. Gas may not be filing bulb when primed.

If you are not getting any fuel it should be either the filter plugged or the primer bulb leaking air. It could also be the fuel line. Give all of them a good look. ...Lee

SOURCE: I have a Toro model 20007 recycler with a 6.5HP Tecumseh engine

This almost sounds like a pinhole in the primer bulb but I need to know if you did the following. Did you remove the jet and venturi tube in the bottom of the carb. and clean the BRASS orifice hole and BRASS tube holes? If you did not then It will act just like the symptoms you described. Also check to see if your float bowl nut has holes in the side of it. IF it does then make sure the hole(s) are clean. Also make sure the fuel selector is all the way ON. Adittionally if the carb to block mating gasket is torn or not secure it will also perform as you stated.

Lastly the open the fuel air mixture screw on the side of the carb about 1/8th turn and see if the performance changes.

If the problem persists ....
This is dangerous due to the risk of fire but....

If you have any carb cleaner you can give it a quick shot in the nmating areas just after you start it before it gets hot to see if it speeds up. If it does, you have a vacuum leak. It is better to use an unlit propane torch if you have one.

It cranks over but won't start. It sound like it wants to for a split second but doesnt.


My wife had the same problem and she was out of gas. Is that possible? You could spray some ether in the intake while someone is cranking the engine. If it starts good but then quits, suspect the fuel pump.

When cross reference the carburetor part of up00651 it came as as Zama C1U-H36 which has a Zama 0057003 which is superceded to Zama 0057030

Clean your carb, if you have not stored it correctly you have a dirty carb now. Carb could be gummed up.

Gas and oil mixed in 4 cycle backpack leaf blower


If it is a 4 cycle blower, you do not mix oil with the fuel....It takes straight Gas. there is an oil cap to put engine oil in crankcase, this only usually takes 2,3,4 oz. of oil. Sounds like your Spark Plug probably fouled out from having oil mixed in your gas. I would recomend changing your Spark Plug and put some Fresh GAS only in the blower, dump the old stuff out !!! You should be on your way Blowing in No Time !

My echo backpack leaf blower pull start seems stuck it wont crank


Without getting to involved with it, did you always mix the correct fuel/oil ratio? or has someone else possibly put straight gas in it without oil? Another possibility is that the recoil could be broke. I would try to determine if the piston is seized in the cylinder. First remove the spark plug and try to pull the starter rope while listening closely for any strange noises from the engine. If it pulls fine then, replace the spark plug and try to start it again. If that doesn't work then I would remove the back cover and remove the muffler so you can look at the cylinder. You will need a phillips screwdriver and a set of metric allen wrenches. Hope that helps.

Great job with the description of the symptoms. What you are describing is a classic case of vapor-lock. In other words, a vacuum is forming in the fuel tank and not allowing the fuel to flow to the carburetor.

Look at the cap, it probably has a small vent built into it. With a little compressed air, blowing from the outside in, try to clear the obstruction. This may not work, but don't worry. Just replace the fuel cap. Your local lawnmower repair shop can probably get a new cap for you. Otherwise, go to www.homelite.com click on the parts tab, enter your model number (starts with a "UT") and order a new one.

Make sure you running gas/oil mix in it and you dont have too much oil. It may also need a carb cleaning/adjustment

It sounds like you have a clog somewhere. Fuel filter in the tank may need to be replaced. The diaphragms in the carburetor may not be as flexible and need replacing. You may have a hole in a fuel line not allowing gas to flow or introducing air to the system. Good Day.
