Question about Digital Cameras

1 Answer

On the back of my Canon battery charger, CB-2LW, is a note to see the instruction manual for use countries other than the USA. I find no such information. Will I be able to use this charger in Scotland? Will I need an adapter of some sort?

I had the exact same question. I found a copy of the "manual" here:
akamaipix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/280/280CB2LW.PDF

It just states that "the charger can be used with a power supply between
100 and 240V AC. Contact your nearest Canon service
center for information about plug adapters for overseas
use.
• To prevent equipment breakdowns and excessive
heating, do not connect this charger to voltage
converters used by travelers, or special power sources"

I think it should be safe for use in Scotland with a plug adapter (not converter).

How do I charge battery on Canon Power Shot Elph 150 is

The camera comes with a CB-2LF or CB-2LFE battery charger. Take the battery out of the camera, put it into the battery charger, and connect the battery charger to a power outlet.

See the instructions beginning on page 20 of the manual: http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/1/0300014371/01/elph150-is-cusp-en.pdf

Instructions for using power shot 580

The Canon PowerShot A580 uses two standard AA batteries. You may use disposables or rechargeables, though if the latter then they must be charged outside the camera using a separate charger.

You may download the manual and more from http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_a_series/powershot_a580#BrochuresAndManuals

How do u charge a canon sd600

To be precise, you don't. You take the battery pack out of the camera, put it into the supplied CB-2LV battery charger, and plug the charger into a power outlet.
For full details, refer to the battery charging instructions on page 3 of the Basic Guide.

Can I recharge the battery via my PC ?? (no original Charger avlbl)

No. The camera does not have any charging circuitry built in, and connecting via the USB port drains the battery faster since the camera has to use juice to communicate with the computer (even if only to say it has nothing to say).

You can order a CB-2LV from Canon at
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_sd_series/powershot_sd1100_is#SuppliesAndAccessories

If you're willing to go with a third-party charger, one such is available at

Can i charge the camera without the charger

Technically, the camera doesn't need charging. As for the battery, the camera does not include any charging circuitry. You need to use the supplied CB-2LY charger. If you need a replacement, you can order one from Canon at
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_sd_series/powershot_sd1200_is#SuppliesAndAccessories

Bought used ixy 10.0 mega pixels 3x15 zoom lens no instruction manuel. Battery is dead. can i recharge battery or must i replace...what is required...is manual available

If you have the IXY 1000, you can download a manual here (the US version is the SD900). The battery is a Canon proprietary battery, and there is a recharger available from Canon to charge the battery, The specific charger you need will depend on where you live -- different countries have different standard voltages and connector plugs.

First of all, have you tried pressing the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera? Next, if your camera's battery is more than a couple years old, it's time for a new battery. Fortunately, inexpensive generic versions of the NB-4L are widely available these days. Here's some from Amazon. Read the user reviews as some generics are better than others. And if your charger truly has shorted out (again I'd check the battery first), here's some generic chargers from Amazon.
