How does this microwave exhaust system work. The installer did not use any duct work, so is the exhaust internal somehow? There is no grill on the exterior for exhaust

The exhaust fan appears to intake through a louvered vent in the bottom rear of the microwave case and output through a grease filter near the top front center of the case. You may be able to see some vent holes along the top of the case though these might be obscured by the manner in which the microwave was installed. You should be able to pop off the front panel that runs above the door but you'll need to consult the owners manual for specific instuctions.

Cheers.

It may be that the internal cooling fan is not working or the filters or air duct may be clogged, but it may also be a "noisy" magnetron.

First, check the filters. Then determine if the internal cooling fan is coming on.

I do not mean the hood vent exhaust fan which you can turn on and off manually.

I'm instead talking about the internal fan which comes on automatically whenever you microwave.

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are working.

If that is working, and you have good air flow, then see this FixYa solution.

The microwave shuts off and will not re start until completely cooled down.

I would suspect that the magnetron is overheating and that the magnetron's thermostat is cutting power until it cools down.

It may be overheating because the internal cooling fan is not running when you're cooking.

When I say internal cooling fan, I do not mean the hood vent exhaust fan which you can turn on and off manually.

I'm instead talking about the internal fan which comes on automatically whenever you microwave.

It is vital that the cooling fan runs, or the magnetron will soon be destroyed.

It may also be that your filter is clogged, or your exhaust duct work is clogged.

"Extend the house duct down to connect to
the exhaust adaptor.

"Seal exhaust duct joints using duct tape."

Can't remove the vent grill

Two problems found. The electrician that installed the micro. installed it incorrectly. The fan was supposed to be turned so that the exhaust would go through the pre-installed duct in the wall. To remove the grill, there is two screws on top of the micro. which have to be removed. The builder put in a deeper cabinet that covers the screws because it looks better. To fix it I have to drop the micro, take off the grill, clean it and all the grease off the micro., replace the charcoal filter, turn the fan so it will exhaust through the duct and reinstall the micro.

Fan just circulates air instead of exhausting the air outside

The exhaust motor was not installed properly - it has to be turned 90 degrees so that the blower openings face up instead of the front. Whoever installed it didn't read the directions:)
Unfortunately, the unit will have to be taken down from the wall to correct the motor.

Tappan microwave TMV151F will lose power during operation. I think around 3 or 4 minutes.

The magnetron is overheating and causing the magnetron thermostat to open.

Then when it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

This is usually caused when the internal cooling fan is not running or by a magnetron that is failing.

When I say internal cooling fan, I do not mean the hood vent exhaust fan which you can turn on and off manually.

I'm instead talking about the internal fan which comes on automatically whenever you microwave.

It is vital that the cooling fan runs, or the magnetron will be
destroyed.

It may also be a clogged exhaust duct or filter. Grease filters should be cleaned regularly and charcoal filters should be replaced (not cleaned) every 6-12 months.

You can refer to your owner;s manual for that info.

You can download most Maytag / Whirlpool / Tappan owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

Microwave runs and then stops, power is good.

Your test demonstrates to me that the magnetron is overheating.

This overheating can be due to the internal cooling fan's not running, a blockage in the air ducts, or just a bad magnetron.

(When I speak of the internal cooling fan, I do not mean the hood / exhaust / vent fan located behind the grille across the top.)

You'd have to consult your manual as to whether the charcoal filter should be used and how and whether it affects cooling.

Also, the charcoal filter cannot be cleaned,. It must be replaced when dirty or at intervals suggested by your manual.

If you do not have your owner's manual, please reply back with your brand and model number so we can help you.

Please reply back here if you still need help.

Noise of microwave exhaust fan

You can remove the exhaust turbine unit with one screw and reinstall microwave and buy a braun external exhaust unit that fits over the hole where it is at the roof or wall and all of the noise will be outside and it will actually work. It is weather proof and will **** steam or fumes out like the best vacuum cleaner.
