Dell Dimension 2400 machines with disk read errors - won't boot!

A clicking sound from the hard drive is the one sound you never want to hear. It means the drive has failed. If you need the data, you have no choice but to send it out for data recovery.
On the second one, I would suspect a hardware problem, but in this case I would try to run the program "spinrite." If the computer can't detect the disk, I would install this disk as a second disk in another system. See if the other system can read it. If it, too, cannot detect it, then you've got another bad disk.

I just purchased a Sony Viao all-in-one. The Sony showed the cursor when I first turned it on, but the mouse could not move the cursor. I replaced the AA battery, and now it does not show a cursor.

If you have a wired mouse you can try to see if that works properly. If its a bluetooth connection you need to make sure its paired with the PC. You can access the settings by going through the control panel and then mouse. Make sure the mouse shows up in the settings, if not you can try to detect new hardware or new mouse.
If it is showing up in the mouse settings, restart the PC and make sure the mouse is on when the PC boots up.
Hope this helps!

What is hp error code 0x4001001300001002

The Boot Manager is missing.

Caused by a failing Harddrive, OR if you were doing a Recovery, and halted it in the middle, whether on purpose, or by a power outage.

I suggest ordering the Restoration Disk/s from HP, for YOUR computer if you do Not have them.
(Not talking about Resto disks you have made yourself)

In the U.S. the disks are free. The shipping and handling is not.
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.
[24 hrs a day, 7 days a week]

Have the Product Number of Your computer written down to give to the representative.
It's in the white Service Tag on the back of your computer tower, or up on the side.
(P/N)

The toll free number for the U.S. is 1-800-474-6836

My wireless mouse - cursor refuses to follow sometimes!

Try cleaning the lazer on bottom with a q tip with some rubbing alcohol on it. Check to make sure the reciever for the mouse isn't too close to any wireless router, phone,or microwave. In the control panel there are mouse settings you can play with too to see if that makes a difference. Re-install any software for the mouse.

I'm not sure when it started, because my 17 year old son was the last person to use the computer. I have a 4-year old Dell PC and have been running Norton Go Back just about the whole time. Since late...

my advice is to uninstal Go back as sometimes it stops the boot process, but you may have a faulty drive, so first try starting in safe mode (Pressing F8 on boot up), select safe mode and if it boots into windows you know it's not a hardware problem, but a software one.

Gateway 610 k/b & mouse unrecognized..CMOS problem??

It's not the K/M, there probably was a surge that went through, and effected the motherboard in the computer. so you can take it to your local computer shop. But, before you bring it there, back up your important files because they might have to format your HD.
