Officejet Pro 8500A Keeps saying paper jam..... no paper stuck anywhere I can see. Turned it off and on and goes on for hours and hours saying it is "checking printer, may take several minutes". Everytime you turn if off, it says this again but nothing happens, left it all night and it is still saying the same message in the morning? Could you advise please? thanks Jackie

Try going to:SetupReportsPrinter Status Report.
If its going to print, it will here, and then hopefully it will make the printer work correctly again.
I tried this today and it has worked.

I get broken gear in my hp officejet pro 8500a

Someone pulled hard on jammed paper to remove it from the printer. This has broken the small plastic paper advancing gear on the left-hand side of the printer (have seen this mistake a number of times). The printer is broken and cannot be fixed, and it is time to purchase a new one. What you and everyone needs to learn from this is to NEVER pull hard to remove paper out of your printer. Be careful, and open the access doors to get to it.

We would suggest that you upgrade to an HP 8600 series printer and if you print more than 500 pages per month you purchase an AdaptiveInk continuous ink supply system (CISS). Adaptive Ink Continuous Ink Supply System Home Page Adaptive Ink HP Pigment ERC

Hp 8500 printer keeps jamming

Are you getting the paper jam message on the display?
This is the standard real paper jam video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFKiGpkyZ1g

The real issue may be the white cog gear under the black shroud located in the lower left hand corner of the unit. http://www.flickr.com/photos/63431470@N05/ The gear can break or crack and cause a false alarm. There is a super glue fix out there but it isn't for everyone. Caution do not glue the gear to the shaft. The internet thread is here: http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/inkjet/68498

I still have mine and it is not repaired. They just don't make them like they used to. Good Luck and I hope this helps you!

My printer is saying "Carriage Jam" and that I should remove Jam and press okay. I can not see a jam anywhere and have tried everything. Do you have any suggestions?

There are a number of things that can cause a carriage jam. To prevent it from recurring, one should keep in mind a number of things.
Always ensure that the paper tray is not overloaded as this might result in the paper being stuck inside.
Also the paper being used should be as per the manufacturer's recommendations.
Turn off the printer when removing bits of paper.
If there is a broken gear, do not repair it yourself. Call an expert technician to mend it. get more help for HP Carriage Jam .

Cleared paper jam &printer will not reset

I had to turn off the printer & disconnect the power cord. I also had some material that was backed up on hold from the night before that was preventing the current material from being printed & I had to go in & cancel the documents to be printed before the printer would function.
