Question about Gateway PC Desktops

When I bought my computer a couple of years ago I missplaced the CD with the product code on it and never entered it into my computer, is there any way I can get a number from you so I can enter it?

get the code from the person that sold you the pc
normally there is a small sticker attached to the pc with the details and code of the os installed
you should also have been given the cd with the os product key and all the details with the pc

Well, the product key should have been on the CD sleeve or on the plastic case. Without the product key, you don't get to install it again. You might call Microsoft and tell them--if you have the original CD, it will have a number on it (near the hole in the middle) and they can use that to verify authenticity. At least they were able to do that for me a long, long time ago in a place far, far away.

I have the Product Key since I bought the Program with CD etc. However when I enter the Key Number it tells me it is invalid. I assumed that this is because I have already loaded loaded the program on 3...


Yes, these product key numbers have limits on the amount of times that you can use the key and/or how many computers can be activated under the same code. There really is no way around this, even if you uninstall from the other computers, the key has already been entered so it will continue to say that it is invalid. It is basically expired and you would need to purchase a new one. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I know its frustrating when you continually try to do something and get the same result! Hope that helped out somewhat.

Cd & dvd maker does not work


First check that all the leads connected to the drive are snug. If it can still read CD/DVD then its just that the optical lenses have weakened, so first try cleaning it, it still persists, change the drive and out in anew one...........sodeep

You need to contact tech or sales support for the product you need the key for. They are the only ones who can legally reissue you a product key.

check cooling fan on cpu on when switched pc on, hdd and cd devices active... yes or no. If no, check power supply or plug fuse, if these are OK, the possible motherboard failure, check back for more support

New ram messing up computer


Does not sound like a memory problem. Usually the machine just crashes. You can run memtest86 to really exercise the memory on your machine. Download (for free) from http://www.memtest.org/#downiso. You have to burn the image to a CD-ROM then boot from the CD. Let it run for a couple of hours and you'll know if you have a memory problem.

Start up problems


Normally, when the Dimension L-series gives a Press DEL to continue, it is an indication that the Hard Drive (Where data is stored) is failing.

At the Dell Screen when the system is 1st turned on, press CNTL+ALT+D to run a quick diagnostic on the hard drive. If there is a failure, you will get a failure code (Code 3, Code 4 etc) if the drive passes, no failure was detected (Doesn't mean one doesn't exists though)

To run more diagnostics, you can boot to the Dell Dimension Resource CD if you have it and run Dell Diagnostics from the CD.
