SOURCE: Garmin GPSmap 76 not acquiring satellites

I had the same problem? GPSmap76S was hung up trying to AutoLocate. It just couldn’t find itself, and it just stopped working all of a sudden one day, while I was traveling. I spoke with Garmin about the problem, and they advised me of an ongoing problem with WAAS. I was told that I should "Disable" WAAS, because the signal from the WAAS satellites had been changed by the government, and Garmin had not yet put out a software update to address the problem, on the 76 units, anyway. Also said that an update "should" come out, in the future, however, no commitment or promise on that. Evidently, once your unit hits one of the WAAS signals, it scrambles up the receiver in the GPS, because mine sure went crazy. The support guy also said, that if this did not correct the problem, I might also want to try a "Master Reset". So here’s what happened.
I disabled WAAS, but this did not correct the problem. The unit was still lost out there somewhere, trying to AutoLocate, so I ended up doing the “Master Reset”. Please read up on this procedure before trying it, and understand that you “will loose” any settings that you might have made to the GPS, along with all waypoints, routes, tracks, etc., however, my maps actually remained in tact? This procedure will actually set the unit back, just as it was when it originally came from the factory. Once completed, you will then have to allow the unit to initialize it's self again, just as you did when the unit was new. If you have forgotten about doing that, it simply means that you need to set the unit outdoors and leave it “on” for a while (15 – 20 minutes), until it actually AutoLocates it’s self, or locks in on your current position. Once this is done, re-do your setting preferences, back to the way you had them before the Master Reset. At the very least, you’ll have to re-set it to the correct time zone, and tell it about daylight savings time. Note: It’s a very good idea to go thru first, and jot down your page settings and main menu settings, before doing this procedure, or the screens may not look familiar to you, once the unit resets. You think you’ll remember them all, but you won’t. But whatever, once you have done the “Reset” and “Initialization”, you must now hook the GPS up to the computer and reload your waypoints, routes, etc, back to the GPS. You did have them saved on your computer, didn’t you? Hope so… If so, you should now be good to go…………….
My unit now works like a champ, good as new, just not as accurate, due to WAAS being turned off. I still don't know if the WAAS issue, was part of the problem or not, but I do know that the Master Reset got the unit back to working immediately, allowing it to locate itself almost instantly. What a relief…………..it’s a little work, but it takes much less time than it took you to read this post…………..
Hey, when all else fails, call Garmin 1-800-800-1020. They are good guys and willing to help, in fact, I would advise you to call them before you do anything, so you can describe to them, exactly what your unit is doing. I am only relating my situation and what happened to me. Your situation may be different…….

SOURCE: Garmin GPSmap 76 locks up

Does the screen go blank with a faint vertical line (top to bottom)? If so, I had the same problem (blank screen, vertical line). After speaking with Garmin, I was told to make sure I was using the latest software version, and to turn off the WAAS function. Disable it for now, because the WAAS signal, coming from the satellite, has changed, and Garmin has not yet published a remedy to correct this problem. A fix should be out in a software update, sometime in the future, hopefully. I also did the software update, to the latest version 4.0. The unit performs perfectly now, however, the accuracy is not quite as good, due to the lack of WAAS. Good Luck!!

SOURCE: NEED MAP DATA CARD FOR GARMIN GPSMAP 180

I have 2 data cards for Garmin gpsmap 180 and working well.I got this offshore boat from Tallahasse 3 wks ago that has a built in Garmin gps 180 with 2 data cards on it and I have no use for it because I have the boat in Texas now. Don't know if this is the right one that you need, all I know is that these 2 cards are programed for Florida gulf.I can ask the previous owner of the boat about the details of these 2 cards. I'm willing to trade it for a data card for the lower gulf preferably from Brownsville, Tx. to Louisiana or anything that will cover Port Isabel, Port Mansfield, Port Aransas. You can e-mail me at odfishing101@yahoo.com or call me at (956) 240-8420 .My name is Oliver.

I haven't used my Garmin GPSMAP 292 for a couple

Have you tried pressing Page + Power at the same time while starting the 292?
Seems like there is a well Kinoen problem with the auto locate locking in wrong position and IF you reset the past position memory by pressing Page + Power while Power up should fix the problem.
You still need approx 20min location time but its better than 12-24h.

Our Garmin 185 is not reading the right position. We are in New Zealand and we should be south and east but is reading north and east and dont seem to be able to change it.

Most GPS units require 3 satellites minimum to tri-angulate your positon (more is better but 3 is minimum). From the question your asking I would think the unit needs to be sent in for repairs because it is not positioning your correctly only garmin can make those repairs for you that I am aware of. Garmins website is www.garmin.com Go to the top of the screen to the right you will see My garmin there. Click on that and send them an email or call them on how to get your unit repaired.

I hope this helps you out, and any positive feedback on here would be appreciated.

Garmin 178c won't find satellites

It would appear that your Garmin has no clue as to where it is on the planet. I think a trip to the owner's manual:

http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/GPSMAP178CSounder_OwnersManual.pdf

might be your best bet to help initialize your unit. The info on how to graphically initialize your Garmin can be found on page 5.

Hope this is helpful.
Good Luck!

I have a garmin gpsmap 498, 4 yrs old. I have been loosing satellite reception. I have examined the coax cable- I do not see any issues. Where do I look?

Had same problem,,, you need to perform an "Auto-Locate" With unit plugged in but not turned on, push the Page and Power buttoms at the same time,,, continue to hold down the buttons until the "I Agree" message appears. Then release the buttons, agree by pushing Enter. The system will then go through an Auto Locate sequence that corrected my problem.

Hooked up this spring but can't find satellites. Nothing has changed

Thanks for the comeback.

Problem was my antenna wire. Somehow the wire wore through where it went through the hard top. Probably due the the high winds we had this winter which caused the cover to rub and pull against it.

Thank you
