Question about Acer Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I took my Acer laptop in to be fixed. I had been wiggling my power cord for weeks in order to get a good power connection until finally no amout of wiggling would produce a good connection. The computer repair shop called today and informed me that my cpu and moterboard are "fried". This does not seem reasonable to me. I have never had any overheating problems--computer rarely got above luke warm while being used, I never experience random reboots, lock-ups, or crashing, and the over-all performance of the laptop was great--until ofcourse the battery died and I couldn't get any power to it. What are your thoughts? Thanks so much.

Hi there,

It's a very strong bet that your DC Power Jack (the hole the cord plugs into) has finally broken loose enough that it can't power the laptop. The jack is soldered to the motherboard. The repair shop probably does not have anyone skilled enough to desolder the jack and resolder a new one on. The part itself is only about $5 but you have to disassemble the laptop and remove the motherboard to properly repair it.

I send all such repairs for my customers to any one of several vendors on eBay who usually do the repair for around $50. I'm posting a link below of some choices for you. Pick a company with a high % Feedback rating and you should be just fine. You buy the Auction, send in the laptop and they usually guarantee your money back if they can't fix it.

The charge light will no longer come on and my wife's Nextbook 10se will not charge, and the battery has gone dead. Where can we get another AC Charger for this Nextbook 10se?

Not sure if you have Princess Auto like here in Atlantic Canada but Walmart may carry something suitable. Staples as well; believe it or not! Ebay if you have PayPal or can wait a few weeks until it's all set up and you transfer funds from your bank account, takes about a week to get set up so you can but stuff on ebay or anywhere that accepts PayPal. I always look for local stuff on and YouTube offers a lot of videos on fixing most everything. Oops, just noticed the wiggle part in your description. Depending on where the wiggling was done the end of the charger cord can be cut apart and re soldered on but if the problem is inside the laptop then laptop will have to come apart and is either soldered directly on the motherboard or is a plug in on the end of a cable connected to the motherboard. YouTube search your device and problem for videos on how to fix this problem.

How do u replace the power jack its not the cord i tried to replace that and still didnt detect the cord

The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power adapter/cord and power jack.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Also, power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

For laptops, remove the heatsink and apply new thermal paste or the motherboard may need replacing.

Leave the power jack fix and heatsink application to an expert.

Hope this helps.

I have a acer extena 4420-5239 that the dc jack inside has come loosa and will not make a connection to power up. Can that be fixed or is it connected to to board

Yes it can be soldered back onto the system board.

Symptoms of a broken power jack
1. If you wiggle the power cord or the AC Adapter connector on the back of the laptop, the power LED and battery charge LED start to flicker.
2. Battery will not charge in the laptop.
3. Laptop runs fine off a charged battery.
4. With the AC Adapter connected the laptop appears to be dead.
No power LED or battery charge LED activity.
5. Laptop randomly powers off without any warning.

If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix the problem by re-soldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it

I am having charging problems, i can wiggle the cord and it will charge if I hold my thumb on it. I ordered a new cord and that didnt help at all

Ordering a new power adapter is not the solution, this is a common problem with all laptops.

The power connector that we wiggle actually shakes the power connector on the motherboard of the laptop and slowly disengages it from the motherboard hence it does not charge the battery under normal conditions. During initial stages wiggling the cable works, but later when the metal contacts go bad we are in trouble.

The actual solution to this is to replace the motherboard of the laptop or you can contact a local technician who can open your laptop and re-solder the power connector or connect a new power connector socket to your motherboard and solder it.

Hi i am having troubl with my power cord to where i have to wiggle it around to charge my laptop what does that mean

The problem could in one of 2 places.

1st: check the adapter on the laptop itself. This part gets very hot causing dry solder points and also the pin can become loose. Check that.

2nd: get a multimeter and check the voltage output on the end as in most cases the wire inside the cord breaks causing a loss of connection thus not powering the laptop up.

If you have to wiggle the wire when its plugged in to the laptop the best place to start is at the laptop adapter.

Good luck.

I have to wiggle power cord for it to connect for the battery to charge , i ordered a new cord and it does not fit tight nor does the orginial anymore, could there be a problem with connector from the pc

The connector on the motherboard needs to be resoldered. This is a common problem that has to be fixed right away. The loose connection will arc inside the unit and eventually damage the motherboard. Unfortunatly the entire laptop has to be disassembled as the motherboard needs to be removed . The connector needs to be removed from the board and reinstalled.

HP Pavilion dv2020us laptop battery won't charge

How is your power supply? does it seem like you have to wiggle your cord that connects to computer to make it recieve power?...Many laptops power supply become loose over time form moving the cord around..when it does, the battery has a hard time getting electric power to recharge. Also, you my have other problems with your lithium internal battery that powers your cmos.

Check to see if your power supply is loose and go from there. the power supply is the little hole where you connect the cord to the laptop.

let me know what the status is
