You have to remove the pilot assembly in order to clean the pilot orifice, make sure to shut down the unit before doing this.
Unscrew the pilot assembly from the pilot holder, dismantle the pilot assembly from the pilot flexible tube using a vise grip and an adjustable wrench,.Remove the pilot orifice from the pilot head and clean it with damp cloth, you can clean the orifice hole using a smallest pin you can find, make sure that the hole will not be damaged or enlarge once you do this, otherwise, pilot flame quality will become poor and will produce soot.

When I try to light the pilot, the flame light at the small hole on the outside on the pilot burner


You have a plugged pilot orifice. That small hole is basically an air intake for pilot when working properly, and when it gets a spider web or something in it, the pilot flame will burn rich (orange/yellow). When pilot orifice is plugged, that"s the next closest place for propane to escape, thus, flame . You need to either blow compressed air in to pilot tube end where flame is normally at, and hope it cleans debris out, or use a 3/8 and 5/16 wrench and disconnect pilot tube from end and remove orifice in pilot assy, and make sure small pinhole is cleared in center of orifice. Be careful when removing tube, as it is aluminum and can crack very easily, especially if older. The best thing to do would be to stop at RV store and get a new pilot tube and thermocouple assy, and install new. Not very expensive, and troubles should be over for years to come with regular servicing. New assy, comes with new orifice etc.

The pilot light takes a long time to light, once lit it barely has but a small blue flame, what is the problem?


Ensure that the unit receives the standard gas pressure as rated on its nameplate.
Pilot orifice may be partially plugged or has some dirt on it, You have to dismantle the whole pilot assembly to gain access in cleaning the pilot orifice. Be careful not to enlarge the orifice bore in cleaning for that will only result to poor pilot flame quality.
The thermopile must be free of soot or soot form of dirt in order to detect the right amount of heat from the pilot flame so that it could also, in turn generate the right amount of voltage needed by the gas valve for pilot and burner operation.

Pilot lite does not have a full flame


Check if the fryer receives sufficient gas pressure as specified on nameplate, if so, your pilot orifice may be clogged.You can clean this by removing 2pcs pilot screw (+) then dismantling the pilot assembly using a vise grip and an adjustable wrench. Once the pilot hood is removed, you will see the pilot orifice. Make sure that the hole will not get large when cleaning.

We had to turn the gas off to connect the dryer, now we can't get the pilot light to turn on. we followed the directions on the water heater 5 or 6 times with no luck. It seems the pilot light will not...


I would suggest that you remove pilot assembly from gas valve and burner and clean pilot orifice and see if that helps. Be careful when cleaning hole in the orifice so you don't enlarge the hole. Good luck and thank you.

Can not get pilot to lite was working fine had to turn off gas will I changed out some water pipe went to relite and could not get pilot to lite


I would first make absolutly sure that I had all air bleed out of gas line to water heater. If you are trying to bleed air out thru pilot assembly this can take a long time because the opening in pilot orifice is very small. To speed up process if you have a union close to unit or flex connector,you can slightly loosen fitting till you can hear a little hiss of escaping air/gas. When you first smell gas immedieatly tighten fitting. Before you do this make sure there are no standing piloy lights or other sources of flame in the vicinity. When you smell gas and tighten fitting back up try to relight pilot to water heater.If you still can't get pilot to light I would remove pilot line from gas valve and burner. Check to see if you can blow thru it, visually inspect pilot orifice, and if blocked I would get a orifice cleaning tool from hardware or welding supply store. Be careful to select the right size for your orifice and clean it. Reinstall and try to light pilot again.Hope this helps. Thanks

Pilot is not heating thermalcoupler


You may have a dirty pilot orifice. Try this. Turn off the pilot by turning the control knob to off. Remove the front panel to get access to the pilot orifice. Use a can of compressed air with attached straw (the same stuff you use to clean computer keyboards) and blow out the pilot orifice, which is inside the pilot assembly where the pilot flame burns. Blow it out from the top and from the sides through the air holes. Then relight the pilot and see if that improves the flame size and color (blue) to heat the thermocouple. Douglas

Pilot light not staying lit, changed thermocouple, start up proceedure normal until the pilot button released.


Some things to check:

Make sure the thermocouple is squarely in the pilot flame and that the pilot flame is large enough to envelop the thermocouple. A weak pilot can be caused by gas pressure or a carboned-up pilot orifice (where the gas comes out). The orifice may need to be cleaned. Ordinary automotive carburetor cleaner will work. Don't try to stick objects into the orifice - damage may result. If you need to perform this step, make sure the gas is turned off to the heater first.

Make sure the other end of the thermocouple is clean and tight in the gas valve.

Hold the pilot plunger down for at least a minute to be sure to give the thermocouple enough time to heat up.

Pilot goes out after heat cycle, relight and it stays burning untill next heat cyle has run.


This sounds like a dirty pilot jet orifice or a weak thermocouple. The pilot orifice can carbon up (natural gas is a fossil fuel), become weak and keep going out whenever the main burner lights, which causes a pressure drop in the gas line. The thermocouple can also become dirty and not sense properly.

The pilot light assembly should be cleaned. The gas must be turned off and it's best if the pilot assembly can be removed. Automotive carb cleaner can be used to clean the orifice. Do not try to insert any object into the pilot orifice valve as this can result in damage.

If cleaning does not resolve the problem, replace the thermocouple first. Make sure it is installed correctly and is squarely in the pilot flame.

Intermittant flame, ignitor function is good, all other functions are as designed,timer ,tumble etc.


Hi

The pilot light flame would sometimes get very small and keep going out. This was usually because the pilot orifice was getting dirty and was partly plugged. The pilot orifice must be cleaned out when the flame becomes too small to light the main burner. You can blow air through the pilot assembly to help clean it out, don't use something metal in the pilot orifice hole or you risk enlarging the pilot gas feed hole and the pilot light may be too BIG. If your pilot flame keeps "going out", chances are you will need to replace the pilot latch do make sure the vent hood flapper is closing ok and no outside air blowing in is effecting the pilot flame.
This is a thermocouple that sensed the heat from the pilot flame and kept a small amount of gas flowing to allow the pilot light to stay lit. If you followed the instructions ( usually found inside the small access door on the front bottom ) on how to re-lite your pilot when it goes out and the flame will not stay on, replace the pilot latch assembly.
