Right click in speakers icon and open volume control----check volume control fader in up position-------check that nothing in mute setting and remove mute where ever you find it.-------confirm that you plug speaker jack in right place(line out).-check your sound driver and confirm it is ok.

Altec lansing 221 computer speakers sound solution
Unfortunately it looks like Altec Lansing goofed up on this set and didn't provide a bass control knob. You will need to use some sort of software equalizer on your computer to turn the bass down.

Need driver for Altec Lansing 221 Operating Sys Vista
The independent site providing the software is not working anymore, and the 221 are not anymore in factory product page. I think the best thing to do is contacting directly Altec Lansing, and asking a replacement cd.
