This is a symptom of a problem with the backlight or the inverter circuit. If the backlights on your TV won't illuminate then there the first possibility is a fault on your power supply circuit board which is interfering with the normal supply of 24VDC from the power board to the inverter circuit.

Another possibility is a loose wire or connector between the power supply circuit board and the inverter board.
The problem may also lie on the inverter circuit board itself. There are a number of small surface mounted fuses on the inverter board and a failure of any one these will likely cause a loss of the backlight. Or it may just be a short circuit in one of the other components on that board.
Last of all it may even be a damaged or faulty backlilght bulb. So you have to check all these probability to fix your problem.

Be sure you get the lamp from jvc. they,re expensive but you will be guranteed the correct part. there is not a stronger lamp for your set but there are some incompatible bulbs. which you will likely get from online stores.

How does input switch on a Sharp TV that is 8 years old?

Well, its hard to say but consider that the TV is 8 years old...

For example, lets just say that the power supply was No Good and the replacement cost was $195.00 and another $50.00 or so to install.

For another $100.00 or so bucks, you can find another LG 52" New under warranty.

Chances are the unit has seen its day.

The main and other boards will need service or replacement and you really do not want to mix, New and Old boards.

I have have this TV for almost 3 have a shaded area on the left side

The dark side of the screen causes of the lamp alignment or prism glass alignment. This is critical you have to consult your LG technician to do this. But if you have any background o repair consult the service manual. Please careful not to touch the prism quarts so that you maintained the clarity of picture and brightness on the screen.
