Question about Frigidaire 24" Single Gas Wall Oven with Built-In Full-Size Lower Broiler - Black

2 Answers

I have an 1800 BTU Frigidaire wall oven Model # FGB24T3ABA. The oven will not ignite. The glow bar seems to be working fine. It quickly glows a bright orange after turning on. However, the gas does not come on. Initially, it was just taking a long tome to heat up. Now it is not coming on at all. What should I check and or replace? Thanks, Tim

The oven is in a rental house, so I am not intimately familiar with the problem beyond what the tenant told me. However, I did look at it today and I tried to get the broiler to come on. I left it on ten minuets or so. The glow bar stayed on the whole time, but oven did not ignite. I don't know if the tenants had a different experience with the oven than with the broiler, but I can ask them. According to what one tenant told me, it has not been working at all the last several times they tried to use it.

I have researched the igniter and found that the factory part cost around $150 .her is an after part that costs $59. They say the only issue it that the replacement does no have the plug and you just have to use wire nut to make the connection. Do you think it's OK to use this part, or would you advise to spend the extra $90 to get the factory part?

    Thanks,

    Tim

Hi
The issue is either with the igniter or the oven temperature sensor that is bad and should be replaced. Probably, this issue could be due to igniter, you would need to check the continuity at igniter using a multimeter. Please refer the below link for details. Also check the gas valve, it has a bi-metal that open when a certain amount of current flows through it to heat it up. In this case the gas valve may be faulty as you can smell gas leak. Make sure that the glow bar is not cracked. Faulty igniters can allow correct current to flow to the oven gas valve for it to open but not get quite hot enough to ignite the gas burner immediately. Igniter check sheet .....Hope this helps.... please post back for further assistance.

Hello, Welcome to FixYa. I have a suspicion of what may be at fault, but first a couple of questions before I attempt to diagnos your oven. 1) when you said in your post "Initially, it was just taking a long time to heat up", was that just on the "bake" setting ? 2) does the oven ever ignite and if not, will it cycle "off" eventually ? 3) finally, does the broil burner appear to work ? ( full flame ignition ) I'll watch for your reply and hopefully I can help you move forward from there. Regards, Macmarkus :)

    Hi,

my first post may have been a little misleading as your model does not have a separate ignitor for broil, so in that case the bake does the broil via a "broil drawer".

Having said that I'd suggest the ignitor itself is bad. The way they work can actually mislead one to believe they ARE operating because they "glow", when in reality they can be faulty even when they glow.

The ignitor in simple term's is like a large resistor and once it reaches it's set value the safety valve will allow gas to the burner and you have flame. It is quite common under normal use for an ignitor to "wear out" after 5 - 7 years though and I'd start by checking or changing that if I where servicing the unit.

Here's what you can try to verify if it's indeed the ignitor...if you're mechanically inclined.

It'll look like this...though you likely know that

** FIRST unplug the range and turn off the gas to the appliance before attempting any service...safety first**

Check the ohm value, test it as follows...

You should be able to find one at most brick & mortar appliance parts vendors or on-line depot's such as "repairclinic.com", "searspartsdirect.com" to name a couple.

You can ask for part number based on the model number for the bake ignitor...double check with your model number with the part`s professional`s.

Hope that help`s. Let me know if I can assist you further and good luck.

Thank`s for visiting "FixYa" for your repair needs. Please take a moment to rate the solution when you are satisfied and a brief testimony is always appreciated.

    Hey Tim,

It is absolutely OK and in fact I rarely use factory replacements unless warranty related service is required. I also recommend using ceramic type wire ties/murrets for joining the wires.

Good luck. Let me know should you require further assistance.

    Regards,

    Macmarkus :)

the glow plug may be working as in its glowing, but even so they can seem to be working, but if they are weak they can appear o.k. but wont pass enough current to completely open the gas valve and keep it fully open, thats why it sometimes wont light or if they do the flame is wavering or small and you smell gas, just replace the glow plug

I smell gas when I turn on my oven. I replaced the gas line but have the same result.

Your Maytag wall oven is equipped with
pilotless ignition. Heat from the Glow Bar
ignitor lights the oven burner. With this type of
ignition system, the oven will not operate
during a power failure or if the wall oven is
disconnected from the wall outlet.

if it is plugged in and everything, your glow bar may be broken, which would mean you will either need to replace it, or get professional service.

Model number fgb24t3aba the ignitar glows but the gas dosent come on frigidaire. i t lights sometimes.

The problem is usually the igniter not reaching the correct amp draw .When the igniter does not reach the correct amp draw it may allow the gas valve to partially open or not open at all. The igniters are inexpensive and easy to replace. This video will walk you thru the correct procedure for testing an oven igniter. It may be a different model but the testing will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.

Oven takes too long to heat up sometimes wont even go to the temperature ignitor is working well can see the glow magic chef model 3488vvv serial 13368882kz

Hello there:
Hi,

When you turn the oven on, open the oven door and look down at the bottom and see if its glowing red, it should glow red for about 45-60 seconds then you should hear the gas ignite. If the gas doesn't ignite, then your igniter glow bar is bad.

Here's the oven glow bar igniter for your model:

The Glow Plug is glowing, but oven will not light up.

Hi,

This may sound strange but it is most often the glow plug that is bad. What happens is as the ignitor (glow plug) ages the resistance internally rises, this rise gets to a point where it limits the electrical current just enough that the valve no longer opens.

Oven will not light. it is a frigidaire model #

When the bake igniter becomes weak or burns out, your oven will not bake. The bake igniter is usually mounted on the oven burner. It's about 1 inch by 4-8 inches (depending on the model), and comes in round or flat styles. If you don't see the igniter glow at all, it's probably burned out. Replace the igniter if found defective. Note: one of the exceptions could be that your oven is set to automatic mode instead of manual. If this is the case, set your oven to manual mode and check again.

If the bake igniter glows red and not bright yellow or white, it is probably because it is too weak. When this happens, the safety valve will not let the gas out into the oven burner. A weak igniter must be replaced.

A faulty igniter is probably the most common cause, however there are others:

  1. Defective thermostat
  2. Defective selector switch
  3. Defective gas safety valve
  4. Defective gas valve coils

Hotpoint oven glowbar not working

My oven glowbar stopped working christmas morning. Yesterday we bought a whirlpool brand (igntr-oven #4342528) because it is twenty something dollars cheaper then GE. My husband installed it today. The only difference is you have to splice the wires (it comes with everthing you need) The first time he put it in it did not work because he had the wires backwards. He switched the wires and now its working fine.
My oven is two years old also.

Broiler works, as do burners. The oven will not come on. Gas whirlpool range 2003 year. Model SF367LEKB

jdelvecchio5Does the igniter (glow bar) come on whenever the bake function is selected.?

If the glow bar does not come on the safety valve will not open - no bake burner. check the electrical harness first then Try changing the igniter (glow bar first) before changing the safety valve/regulator.

WHY WON'T MY OVEN HEAT UP?

Most modern gas ovens and many broilers use a "glow-bar" style of igniter that glows red-hot to ignite the gas. If the igniter doesn't reach the proper temperature, the gas valve won't open. You may need to replace the igniter.
