How do I set up speed dialing on my HP Officejet 5740

While "Speed Dialing" or "Speed Dial" is listed in its fax specifications on some sites, it appears to be a mislabeled categorization of its group fax feature as HP's manual makes no other mention of it--save to say, the "fax to multiple numbers" (or multiple recipients) feature. There does not appear to be a speed dial list, but there is a phone book feature for adding contacts (individual numbers) & groups. (The following is detailed in a more explanatory way on pages 65-66 of the user's manual (http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Officejet-5740-e-All-in-One-Printer-series/6617253/model/6617254/manuals?cc=us&lang=en).

1. From the printer control display, touch Fax.
2. Touch Send Now.
3. Touch the telephone symbol to access its phone book feature.
4. Touch the person symbol for a phone book contact; or touch the multiple person symbol for a group of phone book contacts.
(Note: Contacts should be established before any of these could be added to any group.)
5. Touch + (plus sign) to add a contact/group; or touch the gear symbol (edit) to edit/delete a contact/group.
6. Touch Name.
7. Changes to contacts/groups:
•Adding a contact/group: type the name, & then touch Done.
••Adding a fax number to a contact: Touch Fax Number, enter this contact's fax number, & touch "Create".
••Adding a contact to a group: Touch Number of Members, select all of the contacts to add to this group from this printer's phone book, & touch Select followed by touching "Create".

•Editing: Select the contact/group name, & then touch Done. Then...
••Editing a Contact: touch Fax Number, enter the fax number, & touch Done.
••Editing a Group: touch Number of Members & deselect the contacts to remove from this group or touch + (plus sign) to add contacts to this group. Then touch Done.

•Deleting a contact/group: Select the name, & then touch Delete followed by touching Yes.

If you still need the manual I have the electronic version of the Reference and Facsimile guides

You may want to print the list of the speed dial numbers before so you know which one(s) you want to edit and to have a backup list in case something bad happens -> Additional Functions button then press arrow keys until 8. Print Lists appears then press Set button. Press arrow keys until Print Lists appears then hit Set button then use arrow buttons until Speed Dial List appears then press Set then select the list you want to print (1-Touch, Coded Dial or Group List)

Additional Functions -> press arrow keys (or plus/minus) until 5. Add. Registration appears then Set button
Presss arrow keys until 2. Coded spd dial appears then press Set button
Press Coded Dial then enter the 3 digit code for the number you want to edit (or use plus/minus) then press Set button
Press arros keys until 1. Tel number entry appears then press Set button

When ever i recieved fax its gives me fax remote error after 15 20 min it prints

Hi. You may be having a problem with the quality of connection. Check telephone cable for any physical defects. Try to plug printer in a different phone jack in the wall. Try to call your phone company to have the line checked, maybe they can do something to increase the quality of signal. Make sure that you already registered the user information like your fax name and your fax number in the fax by going to Fax mode > press Menu > Fax setup > Dialling and Sending > Your Fax Name or Your Fax Number. You can also decrease the transmission speed of your fax by going to Fax mode > press Menu > Fax setup > Dialling and Sending > Max Send Speed > change the speed to 9600 bps > hit check to save settings. Hope this helps.

How can I scan something on the printer and send it to my computer

Those usually come with software to make that easy. Find that CD and install that, if you haven't already. Otherwise, go into Control Panel, Printers and Faxes, Scanners and Cameras. There should be options in there to Scan and save as an image/file, which you can then edit.

How to fax forward?

You can set your product to forward incoming faxes to another fax number. When the fax arrives at
your product, it is stored in memory. Then your product dials the fax number you have specified
and sends the fax. If it cannot forward a fax because of an error (for example, the number is busy)
and repeated attempts to redial are unsuccessful, your product will print the fax.
If the product runs out of memory while receiving a fax, it will terminate the incoming fax and only
forward the pages and partial pages already stored in memory.
When using this feature, the product must be the one receiving faxes (not the computer) and the
answer mode must be set to Automatic (see Changing how the product answers incoming faxes).
To use fax forwarding
1
Press menu/enter.
2 Use the < or > button to select Fax Setup and press menu/enter.
3 Use the < or > button to select Fax Recv. Setup and press menu/enter.
4 Use the < or > button to select Forward Fax and press menu/enter.
5 Press > to select On or Off and press menu/enter.
6 If you choose to turn fax forwarding on, use the alphanumeric buttons to enter the fax number
where you want the fax to go, and press menu/enter to save your selection.

Hi zoaj,

More then likely you have the fax set up to USE A DIALING PREFIX.

Therefore it is automatically doing this, regardless of what you input.

Follow the proceedure below ( which comes directly from the users manual for your printer type ) to change this. Delete the " USE A DIALING PREFIX " information.

once that is done, it will no longer automatically add the prefix for you. :)

I have BOLDED the relevant information below that pertains to this.

Please take a moment to evaluate my solution. Your appropriate rating of my solution would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
