Question about Samsung SP-S4223 42 in. Plasma EDTV
I'm not sure how common this is but anything smoking is bad. Something is getting too much current because something is shorting out but maybe not completely. It's kind of like a bread toaster. The wiring is shorted out causing it to create heat. A potential cause of the smoke is a transformer on the power board. But this may not be the problem. It could be whatever it's powering it is failing and causing it to overwork. Kind of like which came first, the chicken or the egg? The only way to know is to crack open the back and start testing parts.
Either way, if the TV still works, I would limit its use. Besides a potential fire risk, you could do more damage then what is already done.
