Richmond power vent will not stay lit, the bunrer will lit than after about 5-10 min. it goes and tries to relite and than goes into lock down. after it about 5 min. you can reset it and it will do the same. Ihave replaced the igniter/thermal (mod# 6G40PVW-40I)

The pilot lights then heats/sends a signal to open gas for burner then(burner)should stay on but if valve shuts the gas off,then have your unit checked. What ever you do,DON'T MESS WITH IT IF GAS/FLAME ON!!!!!. These systems come with a safety feature that allows gas to go on only when safe!!!!

Rheem does not post service manuals ... wonder if that's why huge majority of water heater problem on fixya are about Rheem/Richmond tank and tankless water heaters

1) I believe you can immediately elbow the PVC pipe.
There is a limit for how many elbows can be used between blower and termination, and limit is determined by diameter of PVC pipe.

2) Copy following link for venting resources and typical Rheem and Richmond power vent manuals, and diameter-elbow pdf from Bradford White.

3) Richmond is Rheem. Product manual will show specifications for venting.
Product warranty is voided if installation does not follow specifications shown in manual.

Problem can be bad gas control valve, bad wire connections, combustion chamber and burner parts need cleaning, bad venting, air in gas line. Rheem manual recommends calling service technician.

Error code says: system in lockout, but you know that.
1) Low gas pressure, no gas to water heater: call gas company to check pressure
2) Hot surface igniter not positioned correctly: inspect and clean burner parts.

your damper is stuck open and caulsing a down draft blowing the pilot out, make sure its working properly!!

I have a 40 gal richmond water heater with power vent and had a similar roblem. I call to talk to a tech and he suggested the vacuum switch. I ordered on line. It was $43 plus shipping and I installed it and it did the job. I happy.
