It could also be a bad top screen due to a bad ribbon cable. If your hinge is cracked it could cause damage to the ribbon cable that passes through it, this shorts out the top screen and will shut the DS down
it might be that the ribbon cable connecting the top screen with the bottom screen is loose. you can open it and fix it by yourself, if you want. if it doesn't fix the problem, is either the screen or the ribbon cable that needs replacement.
Replying to the first post: If you have broken the ribbon cable, which is highly likely if you have broken the hinge, then the DS will not work. It does not turn on unless there is a connection to both screens. You will need to buy a new ribbon cable for it: A useful site I found is: www.consoleparts4u.co.uk
Once you replace this then it should work for you.
Repling to th second post:
I would recommend buying a new case for it at least because the ribbon cable will break if left broken due to the strain on it.
The more expensive but easier option is to buy a new one.
Hey, you need a new outer case and a new top screen. There is a ribbon that comes out of the top screen on the top case and connects to the bottom one. There is a very good chance that ribbon has torn off. So you need to replace the top screen and a new outer case with a new hinge. I would send it to Nintendo, I believe they offer a flat rate service for the Nintendo DS Lite.
You can't buy a ribbon for the bottom screen. (You can buy the ribbon that connects the motherboard to the daughter board which connects the top screen.). A new screen is the answer but be very careful when taking off the touch screen. Gently pry the two screens apart or else you will need a new touch screen. Also make a note of how the touch screen is attached to the LCD screen, as the touch screen is not the same size as the LCD screen. How have you damaged the ribbon? Could it be that it may not be pushed tight and straight into the connector? BTW the top and bottom LCD screens are the same. Some unscrupulous dealers have been charging differing amounts for 'Top' or 'Bottom' screens!
Hi I have a problem with my bottom screen as well. I was replacing the case as the hinge was broken. When i was putting it back together i noticed a slight tear in the ribbon cable which is attached to the board and the bottom screen. When I turned it on I found I had poor colour and contrast in the bottom screen however the top screen was fine. Where this ribbon cable is attached to the board there is two small cables attached to the board beneath it, maybe one of these has come away and needs repositioning or your bottom screen needs replacing.Try this site for diy tipshttp://site.powergamingparts.com Cheers Chris
