Not economical to repair the unit judging by the nature of the fault in the laser assembly and the multiple issues. It may be extremely difficult, if not impossible to obtain replacement parts for this unit. However, if you are prepared to spend a lot of money in a workshop repair, by all means do so, but get a quote first, so you will have a good idea as to the cost(s). Be warned; it will be expensive for a budget-priced product.

My advice: bin it, buy a new one. It is cheaper to buy a new unit than forking out major repair costs on the old one.

Panasonic DVD-S31 won't play sound

Did you change the audio cable, "just to rule out" If it won't work on the Tv or stereo, there probably is a audio processor problem, or a issue with the laser pickup assembly, to repair this kind of problem would not justify the cost.

RESET YOUR PLAYER AT DEFAULT SETTINGS. SWITCH IT OFF. SWITCH IT ON AND INSERT CD. GIVE THE PLAYER TIME TO READ. DON'T PRESS ANY BUTTONS TILL IT COMPLETE IT'S READING. IT WILL PLAY THE CD.

ALSO CHECK CD'S ARE BRANDED AND NOT COPY FROM COMPUTER. FEW COMPUTER WRITE CD NOT HAVE AUTO PLAY OPTION.

The Player does not work with Compact Discs.Hoiw to rectify prob

HELLO
I have had this problem quite a few times and I will explain. In the laser pick-up of a DVD player it is, in fact, TWO lasers in one block. One plays CD/MP3 discs and other plays DVD's. It's more than likely that the CD laser has gone faulty which means you can only play DVD.
I have also had the reverse problem of it only plays CD's and not DVD. If you are not too upset that you cannot play CD's then just use it as a DVD player. If you want you can try to clean the lens of the laser block, but it's unlikely that will cure it.
You have two options. Use it as a DVD player only or get the optical block replaced, but it will cost you just as much as another DVD player if not more!
Hope this helps :-).

Personal DVD player does not play

This unit is having a problem in the laser transport section of the player. The unit needs to be cleaned and cleared of all dust and debris impeding the operation of the laser transport operations. You need to open the compartment the the discs are put in and use a can of compressed air to blow clear all dust and debris from the compartment. Then use cotton swabs to wipe the laser transport clean of dust and debris. be very carful not to touch the laser lense with your hands. Use small amounts of Isopropyl alcohol to loose up any hard dust or dirt on the transport rails and gears. Check to see if the ribbon cable has become entangled with the transport.Make sure the transport operation is smooth and balanced. After doing a thorough cleaning, you can test the players operation by playing a dvd to see if it is working properly. If it is not working properly you can go to the set-up menu of the player and restore its setting to the factory settings. This can be done with the defalult function in the preference section of the set-up menu. Now you can try playing the dvd again. If you are still having problems, you can call Phillips customer support at this telephone number 1-888-744-5477. Give them the model number of your dvd player. Explain to them the problem you are having with the grinding noise of the transport heard when attempting to use the player. They will be able to tell how to get your dvd player serviced and repaired. I hope this information helps you with your problem.

Won`t play movie, skipping sound.

You need to try to clean the laser head and the transport. To do this you will need cotton swabs, isopropyl alcohol and small cans of lithium grease and compressed air.. Open the up the compartment that the dvd discs are placed. In the center of the compartment you will find the spindle and a laser transport. In the transport you will see the laser head. Take a cotton swab and put a small amount of alcohol on the tip. Rub the tip of swab gently across the head of the laser. Do this until the head look bright and shiney. Use the other end of the swab to dry the excess moisture off the laser head. Take another swab and use a small amount of alcohol on the tip and go around the transport device cleaning the dust and dirt from it. Use a small can of compressed air to blow away any dust and dirt in the compartment. Once the laser head is cleaned and the transport is cleared of dust and dirt, Move the transport to the outer most point and bring it back in to its closest point. Do this several times. Do not applie to much pressure while doing it.If you find ruff and uneven action. Clean the areas of problem and return the transport action to smooth and easy operation. If still not smooth and easy. Take another cotton swab and use some lithium grease in very small amounts to lubricate the transport rails. Again move the transport back and forth to lubricate the laser transport. This should return the transport to normal action. Now play a music cd to calibrate the laser head . Let the cd play through a couple of times. After doing this you can now try a dvd disc and it should play normally. If it still does not play correctly, check the spindel to see if it is loose. If this is the case use a drop of super glue to tighten it up. Let it dry completely and try the disc again. It should work correctly. If you are still having a problem. You either have a problem with the laser itself or the drive motor. The drive motor problem would usually be noticed on the playing of the cd. The laserhead and the motor can be replaced if this is the problem. You can find more information on how to do these repairs on you tube. Put cleaning and repairing portable dvd players in the search engine and it will bring up videos on how people have done these types of repairs. I hope this information will help you with your problem.

Will not play disk comes up no disk

With the power turned off, open the DVD Player, and then open the top where you load the DVD into the player. Locate the laser lens and notice that the laser is attached to a transport assembly that moves the laser diagonally outward in a slot. 1. Slide this assembly outward to the end of its track. 2. Slide the assembly back inward to the closest inward position. 3. Repeat the process of sliding the assembly outward and then back inward.4. Put in a music CD and let it play all the way through. This helps to calibrate the laser head assembly movement. When the music CD is finished playing. 5. Put in a DVD, and you should have a working unit again This is a factory solution from Mintek that was given to a customer who ask for help with the forever loading disc problems. This solution may work on other models of portable DVD players. Most portable DVD players use this type of transport mechanism. Try this solution it might work for you. I hope this information helps you with your problem.

WHY WON'T MY DVD PLAYER WORK?

you can try this unplug the unit , you'll need alchohol, q-tips, screwdriver open it and look for all the flat cable connectors. be carefull and remove 1 side at the time ,and clean the contacts, put them back on , see if you can see the optic laser inside the mechanism it looks like a crystal eye, if you can reach it be gentle and clean the dust may it have. or buy at radio shack a cd cleaner. if after that your dvd don't work with dvds try a regular cd. if it plays music the laser its bad nothig else you can do. cheaper to buy a new one
