Question about Compaq Presario Notebook

The screen on my Compaq nc6320 only shows the proper image when I grab the top of the screen with one hand (while holding the unit stable with the other hand) and twisting it counterclockwise against the hinges. As soon as tension is released, screen freezes/rolls, then begins to fade into a sickly green color. If I grab/twist the screen flickers/rolls and then I can see my desktop again! (Until I release tension) Should I take it apart to make sure something isn't loose? I am at a loss.... any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I had the exact same issue with my compaq presario c500. I was getting ready to buy a new screen and in the process I needed to find out what was the original screen part number was. So I turned it off removed the power cord and battery. with a set of jewlers screwdrivers I carefully removed the 6 rubber screw covers around the screen bezel, then removed the screws. With a slotted screwdriver I carefully began to unsnap the bezel from the top case, after that I removed the tiny phillips screws holding the screen to the case. Once seperated I thought it wouldn't hurt to check all the connections so being extremely carefull I pealed back the clear tape on the ribbon cable from the back of the screen disconnected it and then reconnected several times. I did the same with the 2 connectors in the bottom that is for the back light display and I'm guessing the VGA card which are not ribbon cables but plastic pin connectors. I couldn't find a part number so I put it all back together again once again being very carefull. Powered it back up and tadahhh the screen works just fine. I'm guessing that one of the connectors developed a slight bit of corrosion or had come loose and wasn't making good contact...So before buying a new screen try this and I hope it helps...

An interesting problem you have there! It does seem like it's a bad connection somewhere, so yes. I would suggest that you take apart the screen portion of the laptop and take a look at the connections. It's not too difficult to do that. This guide will help you out: Hope this helps!

I cannot find any printscreen or prtsc button on my (second hand) HP compaq nc6320. Can I make one with quickbuttons or so ..?

You should have a blue [fn] button to the right of the [ctrl] key. Hold it down and press [insert] at the same time. My NC6320 has lots of these functions printed in blue on the keys.

The same as on most PC's, by pressing the Prt Sc button on the laptop OR the FUNCTION key then the Prt Sc then go into Paint and click on "edit" / paste then your screen shot will show.

Nc6320 external power problem

most case cause DC jack connection is not stable or damage
you may try
1) to open cover find out the DC jack 2 or 3 pins on the motherboard then to fix it use iron and flux.
2) check any disconnection DC/DC circuite near the jack
3) repleace the new jack if the jack damage

it seems that its a not a problem with your hard disk at it load on to the windows succesfully. Chances are any one of these :-
1. Some one might have changed the user name or password.
2. The file that holds the password might be corrupted.
3.If you are using a network based login, ask your administrator for assistance.

The better solution is to Repair install or Re-Install the operating system...
( U might Lose your Data while doing it but not all the time)

Paddy it seems windows login problem, may be you are not using correct user name or/and password or may be your password profile got currupted.

Anyway in your case as you have purchased it second hand, then you don't had have any specific program or file on the hard disk. So you can easily format your lap and installed new XP or Vista as per your requirement. It will solve your problem. But you should must have the device drivers to work and installed properly.

Yes if you will use new hard drive then you can install, but same things will be required as per above. So I will recommend you to install on same HDD don't buy new one.

try printing a test page. Make sure you have the right driver for your printer. Make sure all connection are secure and tight.
