Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Model SDE 3606 AYW Doesn't heat up, anymore. I think its about 4 years old..~? Screen is always clean, all venting ducts and tubing replaced, recently. Replacing parts isn't an issue, but I don't have meters and the such, to test other things. Is this a simple heating element problem? Thanks very much for your time!! 11Bravo

Sound like the heating element is open. Looks just like a toaster coil... look for a broken wire in the coils.

Whirlpool gas dryer takes longer to dry though it heats up and turns, yet it has a humming/buzzing noise. What could be the problem?

Had the same problem. There was a bit of a kink in the vent duct which caused lint to build up in duct and also inside the dryer itself over years. I replaced the duct and took dryer apart and cleaned out the air passages. It works great now. As for the humming, mine started about 2 1/2 years ago and I still don't know why.

My Maytag gas dryer model LDG9801AAL has irregular heating. The flame is not 100% bluish even after I cleaned the igniter glowbar. I already changed the dryer sensor but the flame keeps getting shut off...

if the flame is liting the ignotor is good,if the flame goea out after a minute or so then you have to clean out the dryer, unplug it,clean out the duct that the lint filter slides into, clean out the cabinet where the motor is and if the vent line is a long run i use a leaf blower to blow it out, pull it off the back of the dryer, stick the leaf blower into the vent and blow all the lint more thing if the flame lites and after 10 to 30 minutes thee flame doesn't lite anymore you have bad gas coils you can remove the cover down on the bottom right side of the front panel to check this, also you should clean this dryer at least once a year so you don't have a fire and your clothes will dry on time, pull the vent line off the back and see if it runs any better but you still have to clean the lint filter duct too,the block could be in there, bad air movement will cause this to happen.let me know how you make out.

Often a dryer heating element burns out, but doesn't trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. The heating element is simply a long coil of special wire. You can check it for continuity with an ohm meter. No continuity means the element is bad and you need to replace it--electric heating elements aren't repairable. On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse--which is about an inch long--is usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing. If the fuse has blown, you need to replace it.

My ge Profile dryer is 5 years old and for about a year the drying process became slower and slower as the heat within became cooler and cooler! Im thinking thats the heating element. My question is how do...

This is dued to lint build up in the dryers venting tubes. If you completely tear the vents off and clean them inside thoroughly it will run like ne again. It will be better to replace accordian stle tubes than to clean them if that is what you have on yours

A moister sensor detects the build up and keeps the heat in check

I have a maytag performa electric dryer model #pye2300ayw, rev 10 -- sometimes I need to run the dryer 3-4 times to get a load dried. I checked the outside vent and there is alot of hot air coming out, the...

We had this same problem recently. Don't know if your problem is the same, but I am sure it could be.
While we did have hot air coming from the outside vent, it was still a restricted vent duct that was our problem. I went to Lowes and bought a dryer vent cleaning kit for about $40 (I figured I needed to do this anyway, as I'd been hearing about how many housefires are caused by the heat buildup from poorly breathing vent tubes/ducts), and cleaned the whole length of the duct (and replaced the plastic flexi-tube inside with a metal one).
I had thought I had good air-flow before doing this, but oh my gosh, what a difference this made! And I couldn't believe the pile of nasty, damp lint that came out!!
Anyway, our dryer immediately went from requiring 2-3 cycles to dry a load of clothes, to doing a great job the first time through! Perhaps the same solution would help you. I hope so!

Dryer works bu not lighting the furnace. What do u think?

Two things come to mind when this happens. The duct work is totally plugged up or the spark ignitor is out of order.
Check the vent tubing by completely disconnecting it and cleaqn thoroughly clean. I see one once I took apart and filled a 15 gallong trash bag full of lint. The dyer was three years old and had a 10 foot vent tube. 4 feet of tubing is always recomended at the longest length used. If longer it needs to be cleaned evey few months for 100% efficiency
If the tubing is clean turn on the dryer and listen for the click the sopark ignitor makes to light up the burner. If no click is heard the ignitor is bad

My Maytag model SDE 3606 AYW elec is making a lot of noise when it spins like its out of balance, it sounds like when you have a pair of tennis shoes in it

Usually when a Maytag dryer makes a noise like that, the blower wheel is bad and will need to be replaced. This is a common problem and and a fairly easy repair. Take you model number to your local repair shop and they can get you the part and instructions on how to replace it.

How do I get to the belt on my Mdaytag SDE 3606 AYW

Its not a hard job...just time consuming because you have to remove the front panel and the front screws for the top panel, to allow it to lift up. (or on the newer Maytags, made by Whirlpool...the top may come off first, then the front). That allows access to the dryer drum and the belt runs around it. The belt also runs around the idler wheel assembly, so be sure to make a diagram (or if you have a digital camera, take a photo) before removing the old belt, so you know how to re-install the new one.

As always, before working on any electrical appliance, be sure and unplug if first. It also helps to move the dryer out into the kitchen and against a counter top, so the top lid has something to rest against when you raise the front of it up.

Here's a good website with photos that will help you better than I could explain it:
Maytag is manufactured by Whirlpool and even if your model doesn't look exactly like the dryer in the photos, it will be close enough to help you.

Hope that helps

My LG dryer will not dry anymore. Lint is only on 1/4 of the lint screen when I pull it out. It takes about 3 hours for one load to dry

First check that the duct is clear of obstructions.

A quick way is to place a wet towel in the dryer, remove the duct from the wall and let the machine vent inside of the house. run it at high heat without the filter screen in.

While it is running check for good air flow by placing your hand near the dryer vent. Also note if there is any heat. also listen for the sounds of the drum turning.

If there is good flow and good heat then the filter screen of duct needs cleaning. Inserting the filter screen and running the test again will tell you which it is. If there is a noticeable difference between filter in and filter out then the filter needs cleaning.

If there is good flow and no heat then the dryer element needs to be checked and either a thermostat or element replaced.

If there is no flow then the blower needs to be replaced.

If there is no drum spinning but heat and flow then the belt needs to be replaced ( Extremely unlikely)

If all of these conditions check out then you will need to call a tech in to diagnose.
