I just bought a Nokia N800 internet tablet, which can connect with wi-fi or bluetooth. I travel a good bit, so I love it. I researched it and deliberately bought a used N800, because it seems to be a better machine for my needs than the newer N810 at twice the price.
Anyway, I was wondering: is there a plug & play bluetooth or wi-fi adapter that would allow me to share a desktop's internet connection, for those times when I can't find wi-fi? The bluetooth dongles that I've seen all require the installation of software on the desktop, and I'd rather not ask my friends to do that.

Re: Bluetooth connection to desktop?
No, PC internet connection is not shared with N800. The only way to connect to the internet without a wifi signal is to pair your N800 with your cellphone (if it's GPRS and bluetooth capable) and share the GPRS connection. You can do it with the connection manager of your N800

Connect Amazon Tap to a Wi-Fi network. Follow the instructions in the app to connect Amazon Tap to a Wi-Fi network. If the setup process does not automatically start, press and hold the Wi-Fi / Bluetooth button on Amazon Tap for five seconds. Then, open the Alexa app, and go to Settings > Set up a new device.
Are you trying to connect via wi-fi or via bluetooth? Typical hotspots are wi-fi, and that can be as easy as turning on wi-fi (in Settings, Wi-fi - see manual or quick setup brochure) then waiting for it to find an active hotspot and plugging in any necessary password. Bluetooth is much less common. Post more info and I'll try to help more.
you can connect it via wi-fi or via bluetooth.. if you have a router near you archos will get connected with that router through wi-fi and you'll be able to go online. if you have a 3g and bluetooth enabled phone with you pair that phone with archos via bluetooth so that archos can use phone data plan for browsing the internet.

You can initiate the Wi-Fi connection from pc in case you don't have Bluetooth on your pc. Open the installed Smartcam application on your pc and then go to File -> Settings -> Connection -> TCP/IP (Wifi) and make sure the settings for Port is Port:9361 Now start the SmartCam application on your mobile phone and go to Options -> Connect -> TCP/IP (Wi-Fi). It will prompt for Server Name. Fill the IP address of your pc (Use ipconfig command on command prompt to know your IP address).
