My acer laptop is skipping back to other lines when i type for no reason and i find myself typing between text I have already typed. It is very very annoying. I know I am not touching any keys when this happens besides the letter keys.

What settings should it be? you say to check the settings, what am i looking for? What should they be, i very much doubt it says, jump between lines, so what should it be set at to not do this? I know i am not touching the mouse pad when it happens

i have a remote keyboard and mouse, should i use them and see if the problem happens still? Then i guess if it does then i know it's internal?

This happens to me on the laptop that I am using currently. This may just be the settings of your touch pad. To see if it is the settings, click the 'windows' icon on the lower left screen then click control panel. Select 'mouse' Your touch pad may be under the 'touch pad' , 'device setting' or 'dell touchpad'. This would depend on the manufacturer. Adjust the scroll settings until you get the desired setup.

If this does not work it could be some wiring issue or the touch pad may be defective.

its the scroll settings. Check if lowering it from fast to slow helps. Otherwise it could be internal problems or a bad touchpad. You could disable the touchpad on the same window where you can do the settings if the adjustments failed. If the same issue occurs with it disabled then it is not the touchpad. It may loose contacts internally or loose connections or a software issue.

use a usb mouse while doing the changes especially when you try to disable the touchpad.

do first the suggestions with a mouse connected to the laptop including disabling the track pad. IF the problem is still there you then may try to add another keyboard. This is to isolate the vibrations from the keyboard.

If the external keyboard works, it could be vibrations from the tying causes the problem. This might be problems with the sensors on the arrow button or the tab button. If the problem goes away when you have the touchpad disabled then you may have a faulty touchpad or the connectors that has it connected to the motherboard may be bad. These are relatively internal issues as we need to open up the laptop to get to them.

When I type the cursor jumps back into the text that I've already typed. It's an Acer One D255. What's going on?

you pobbly wont belive me here because it didnt when i was told it is because of the touchpad being so sensitive and not being sunk in when you are typing your sleeve will touch it even slightly and it jumps back its so annoying lol....if you don't believe me what to do is write a sentence with your hands basically pointing down and you will see it doesn't happen any more its just a design flaw i hope this helped and please contact me and let me know what happens

While typing suddenly skips back at random to the previous line...? then types over and in between stuff i already typed and i have to backspace and retype. What may be causing this?

this sometimes happen in a laptop where the touchpad is unawarely hit causing the cursor to transfer location. that is why the typing is pointed to other location in the document. please make sure that your workspace is not having any of this same scenario

Cursor skipping and jumping back into previously typed text

Have a D600 myself and found anothe post that worked for me!

First, my problem was replying to emails the cursor would jump when typing usually back up into the middle of the text somewhere.

If this is similar, read on.

First, go to Dell's website, downlaod the latest driver for the Alps Touchpad:

Download the driver but do not install yet. Note, this is for a Dell Latitude D600, Windows XP. Vista may have a different driver.

Open Control Panel/Mouse/TouchPad Tab/Touch Sensitivity Button. Open Touch Sensitivity, adjust below the halfway point on the slider. Try different settings, you may also want to check the "Tap off when typing" box.

If you do not show these properties as above, you probably don't have the latest driver installed. In that case, install the driver you downloaded above then come back and refer to the instructions.

I spend 90% of my day on this D600 and really love it, not a speed demon, but light enought to carry with one hand and is a great email/browser machine as you probably already know!

Before installing tis driver

Skipping cursor problems

i was trying to assit my lacousin with her laptop "issues" and could not figure out how to stop the cursor from skipping around. when you start typing on her laptop the cursor has been known to:

move randomly while you're typing
highlights text and deletes it
jump all over the page

After doing many google searches, I was unsuccessful in finding a solution so I thought I'd post here. I have tried to make her touch pad less sensitive but nothing seems to work.

Thanks for touching basis with me for clarification...hopes this helps!

Cursor skips lines while typing

My experience: cursor suddenly moving backward when i was typing, or moving somewhere else on the page. I would be typing and text suddenly would get highlighted. I followed someone's advice to disable the touch pad. Since I do have a mouse & key pad that was all i had to do.
Yep, it was that simple. At first I made sure i typed without my fingers or palms touching or near the touchpad. I noticed it seemed to stop or happen less. Soon as I disabled the touch pad all is back to normal. Yet I spent hrs trying to find out how and there were all these posts by people suggesting downloads and other more complicated things etc..
