I understand that what I'm about to suggest is less than ideal but I think it's your best bet in getting your rowing machine functioning. If it's a brand-new out-of-the-box machine and you're having issues with it, then I would personally consider it a faulty machine. Even if you get this particular issue resolved on your own, it may not be the only issue with this unit. I suggest taking it back to the store and exchanging it as it should still be under warranty. It sounds like there's an electronic issue with the unit and it's best to simply replace the whole thing rather than to try to fix it as it's impossible to know to what extent this unit is faulty.
There are two possible reasons of the problem that you are experiencing.
1. the display or monitor
2. the source or the computer itself
Here's the thing that you need to do. First of all, you need to isolate the part of the computer which causing the problem. Follow the procedure below.
1. Check whether the computer completely turns off. When you press the power button, does it do the usual starting process where you can see the operating system loading up? If your answer is yes, then, there is no problem with the display. It's the computer itself that's causing the problem.
2. If the computer does not shut down completely. When the monitor turn back on and you see the same display as what was displayed before it turned off, then, it's probably the monitor which causing. I am not sure whether you are referring to a laptop or not. (Please let me know by leaving a comment in this thread so that I can help you further.)
After doing the first two procedures, you are now in the situation where you can tell which component is causing the problem. If it's the computer which is causing the problem, then, you need to save the important files that you have saved in your computer. Saved them in a USB flash drive. And do the operating system reinstallation to completely fix the issue. Here are 3 links to the different tutorials on how to do the operating system reinstallation.

2. WINDOWS 7 INSTALLATION GUIDE
3. WINDOWS XP INSTALLATION GUIDE
If the problem is with the display, then, leave a comment in this thread. Tell if we are working with a laptop or a desktop. Include the brand of the computer and the operating system that it's running.
Possible there are errors in the sub processor to the display or an error in data transfer.
You will need to check the +5 to the processor unit, check the lines and see that the voltage is steady. if there is no other fault seen in the board , check to see if the processor works longer if cooled- use a freeze-it- spray on the IC and associated circuits.
if the display works then , it is possible that the IC is faulty.
make sure that the capacitors in the power are good, change if any of them are suspected to leak or has aged.
Check the display unit, the connections, solder suspected dry solder joints.
Sorry , I have not seen the reply as I was away off- line. Sure I read into that your processor is malfunctioning but as you have indicated this is brand new, You must ask for warranty replacement as this can be a serious issue with the displays' sub procesor or the main processor. Since the battery was changed without result , I think you must not tamper on the board but call up the dealer. Only if such service is not available must you think of checking on the main board for the power supply and processor oscillations.

I failed to mention that this is a brand-new machine, unboxed on Tuesday. I don't think soldering anything or freezing anything is the way to begin here.
I changed the batteries (from the factory pair) and re-seated them twice. Same results.
Any other ideas?
My original comment didn't indicate that this is a brand-new machine, unboxed on Tuesday.
As soon as I noticed the problem, I changed the batteries (getting rid of the factory pair). When the problem continued, I re-seated them.
The problem continues - but I don't think freezing or soldering anything is an appropriate next step with a brand-new machine.
Any other ideas? Has anyone read about this problem with this model before?
Sorry, I don't think your expert is reading what I'm writing.
I'm not talking about a laptop; I'm talking about the computer on the rowing machine. This is not doing much for my impression of FixYa.
This is a Coach M rowing machine from Kettler, fresh out of the box. The computer display turns itself off and resets everything after about five minutes of use. I've replaced the batteries and re-seated them.
Any actually relevant suggestions?
